That is generally not recommended by anybody, especially the battery manufacturers. By paralleling series components of strings, you lose the ability to monitor those individual elements. With 4S2P, you can individually monitor all 8 batteries. With 2P4S, you can't monitor any of them, only pairs... to save $60.

Is consistent with the Victron best practice. Victron does not label those batteries as 12V, and if you want to split hairs, they are using 24V inverters, so each of those parallel batteries must be 24V.

The two strings of 4S 12V are 48V batteries like this:

This is how I have mine wired except the positive and negative both go to bus bars that the inverter ties to. Not opposite ends of the bus bar though. Does that part matter that much?
