Has anyone had any luck reselling panels locally?

Looking at two more ~400w bifacial panels for my system. I can get them for $225/ea local-ish, or around half that price if I want to buy 10+ and pay pallet shipping - have a truck and access to a forklift at work.

Has it been profitable for anyone to buy extra panels and resell locally?

Not often. People are sketchy and weird. If you don’t take payments before ordering I sit on them a while because nobody wants to pay a fair price.

I have spare 300W panels here in Vermont right now for pretty cheap. But people no-show or ghost, or say stupid things like, “I’ll pay $500 for ten tonight. I’ll pay cash and come take ‘em tonight!” and don’t respect that you’re selling brand new panels not trying to unload them cuz you’re broke or stole them.

You’re probably better off calling around some electric suppliers and seeing what they have or where they would send you locally. You’ll find some.

I sold a pallet worth of panels recently. I almost think I priced them too low. People were hesitant because they are so inexpensive. Could not believe they were new, nothing was wrong with them, etc.

How much are you looking for for your 300W panels? I picked up ten Hyundai 300W from sig solar for $1000 including shipping but they don't have those or the 305s in stock anymore.

I recently sold off extra panels that I got with a shipment. They were some used SanTan 250w panels, and I actually sold them for more than I paid, including the shipping and all. What was weird is I posted them on Facebook Marketplace, and I got 10 hit in the first 30 min, and had one guy at my house within an hour buying them.

Must be the area 🤷‍♂️

Check your local Craigslist and FB market place. Been buying and selling for years. Just check prices and undercut everyone else and it will always sell eventually. Keep your answers to text or email short, and don't waste time. Just post all of the information of the panels with pictures and someone will come along that really wants them and hand you the posted price without hassle.

I've bought a bunch of panels locally, and more and more are popping up all the time. Generally a good deal here is $.10-.20 / watt. Meaning high availability and lots of people switching from 2nd gen 60 cell panels to 3rd gen 72cell+, half cell and more modern better panels.

With that being said, I've checked other areas and states and price/availability vary greatly. You may be able to get more than what you paid because availability is low.

I flip generators frequently. The people who show up are usually decent, and I've had less than my fair share of flakes. A couple have made me wonder how they function in the world though, and one made me thankful for the precautions I take with this stuff.

Hit or miss. Too many panels in the wild now, seems they can be found under a rock for under 100/panel (400w) in my area now and used 250s for 30-40/ea

Yup. Sketchy citified folks move to Vermont. They don’t really fit in, but they parallel readily with the greasy woodchucks in spite their differences.

If a visual, some conversation, and my Klein meter don’t convince them pretty quickly I don’t trust people. I learned years ago to always meet someplace with lots of cameras, plus nobody sees what I have that way- in case they have “ideas.”

exactly- I was single parent to school age daughters. I’ve got grandkids now, but back then no craigslist wannabe hippie woodchucks were coming to the house in their rusty civics 😂 (nothing towards you, bolhuijo btw)

If this was available here, I wouldn't even be considering it.

I'm seeking panels to add a "winter" array. We're just heading into summer now, so no rush to acquire panels. I'll keep my eyes open and see what pops up in my area.
