Philips may have created the best LED bulb yet

Was there a DIY Lightbulb Forum back then?

Candle making is still a thing. Shake off the shackles of foreign battery manufacturers! Who needs LiFePO4 or LED to see at night?

Bees wax, you can make your own solar powered wax rendering machine, and you maybe get some honey from it.

Couldn't help but notice their state-of-the-art facility has some machine workstations running Windows XP. I wonder if they are using genuine licensed copies. (things that make ya go hmm)

No, he is not the only one.
As noted, just because something is not important you you, does not mean it's not important to someone else. Not just regarding bulbs, but anything.
Absolutely. I am sure that, somewhere out there, there's a demand for maunure-scented incandescent bulbs that break when you touch them and only last 3 hours.

But probably not enough of a demand to, you know, build any.

I am aware of a few industrial process that are using XP computers.
They are not connected to any networks, the operating system is very stable and my employer is so cheap if it cost a nickel to poo that would make us throw up...

A sister plant up wind of mine is one of the most dangerous chemical plants in North America.
I am ware of legacy Modicon PLCs still running with the 1980s and 70s generation processors and software because they are " reliable "...

Everyday I put my life in the hands of Geriatric Modicon PLC with an ABB watchdog making sure it does not develop Silicon dementia and take me for the ride of my life ( to the after life lol )....

I bet there are Russian nuclear Submarines running Windows 95 lol...

I'm not worried about how old stuff is.
I worry about how well its cared for.
In the last 7 years I have never seen the scabbed in modern Automation systems function any better than the ancient stuff.
In an emergency poison gas leak the vent doors still won't all close..

Ya I worry but I won't worry long .

You should think about all the crap around you that you invisibly just believe will work new or old.
Think about it, how can it effect your life.
Do you think or worry about the right things?

Yeah back in the day I loved XP and never wanted to upgrade, got frustrated when they quit providing Windows Updates on it, and same with Win 7... By the time they end-of-life'd Win 7, I switched to Macbook Pro for personal use (except for my shop automotive diagnostic laptop)...

Win 11 is horrible, horrible, but work forces it on us with the corp PC. I was still happy with XP, was just pointing out that it is the easiest one to make a slipstreamed activated installer disc so it doesn't need a key or activation, can just install it again and again, and use for fun everywhere, like this is a good place for a stick-up. I guess I was a bit surprised not seeing them using some flavor of Linux or something on those workstations, but oh well, I guess whatever works.

Work/business doesn’t force anything, it’s planned obsolescence and lack of MS support for patches and security updates that give corporations to bow to MS.

Don’t forget Apple isn’t far off, we have a 2011
MBP that lost native Mac OS support beyond high Seiara or something , and now new software requires updating OS to Catalina or something. There’s nothing wrong with the hardware supporting newer version of OS. Luckily some creative people created patch’s tutorials and installers to allow me to use my 13 year old laptop. I have upgraded to 16gb ram an a 1tb SSD, hopefully I can get another 5 years from it.

Also WTF is apple doing offering a new MBP with such small storage? Why isn’t 1t storage mandatory across the board? Our 2011 had something like 420gb in a spinning platter but still.

Segmentation so someone who's poor can get a $999 Macbook and get by with it, but if you can afford more it ensures you will pay a higher price.

I think it's kind of a fair strategy.

I shouldn’t be surprised seeing until recently the base storage of an iPhone was borderline of pathetic compared to iOS needs and bloated apps, wtf does the News app need 1gb of storage of documents and data?

I just received my order of 8 pieces ($35 total, eBay vendor).
I put 3 in a ceiling fixture wired to toggle dimmer, and it is flicker free. Happy so far.

With sparing use, the halogen incandescent bulbs lasted 15 ~ 20 years, only one still working.
The LED we can use as much as we want.

Remains to be seen how happy they are in a fully closed fixture (heat).
