Hello Everyone,
I am looking for a device which can shift input source from utility to Inverter and vice versa without any lag . I saw ATS available online but they uses magnetic relay which do not shift very smoothly. If a computer is connected, it will definitely restart with these ATS

Hello Everyone,

What ATS are you looking at? Some mechanical ATS will shift amazingly fast, and many computer power supplies can ride out several cycles.

I just bought a UPS, the switchover on my AIO ATS was seamless but for piece of mind and because I have a stack laying around I used a UPS also

You can buy a closed transition transfer switch but I doubt that you will want to pay the price for one. A battery is the answer. Solar, grid, and a generator all become battery chargers.

Any transfer will require some time. What is the max transfer time? The only 0 sec UPS is a double conversion. Separate charger and inverter, both running all the time.

If the transfer happens in 17ms or less, only the most sensitive gear will be affected.

17ms is one cycle at 60Hz and almost any computer power supply can ride out a full cycle. Furthermore, 16ms is within the capability of a decent relay-driven switchover.

Why not just buy a small UPS. Only need to power during the ATS transfer time.
That's what I use. I have several including rack mount versions for my server towers.

My tp6048 all in one switches fast enough when the power goes out that I don't actually "need" them but its piece of mind. Also if I need to turn off the power to make changes the ups's last long enough to keep the computers running while I'm working on things.

My ancient APC 48V 3000XL UPSverter will transfer within a ¼ cycle, and the massive transformers are great for starting 1/2 hp motors without blinking. The "XL" versions are pure sine and rated for continuous operation. Many UPSs are designed to overheat just as the standard battery runs out.
