I know everyone seems to be getting one of these and they love them. Seems like an excellent offgrid aka SBU aka not using the grid inverters.

Its pretty. Looks cool and all.

But for my purposes so far it SUCKS.

I needed a true hybrid inverter like my TP6048 that used the grid and then could be manually switched to battery use on a schedule or switch in the advent of a power outage. This inverter will do that except the stupid thing eats batteries while running on pv or the grid.

That's right folks it uses the batteries for the idle consumption while running on the grid or pv. WTF.

It has no clue what float means and is constantly either charging or discharging the batteries non stop 24hrs a day.

I have tried everything under the sun to stop it from doing this. Ive got a few emails into sungold right now to see if there is a firmware update or something to fix this. If not this thing is going back and I will get another tp6048 to run in parallel with the one I have already because it works like its supposed to.

If someone wants to make a suggestion on how to get it to actually go to float and quit discharging the batteries for no reason I would love to hear about it. I just don't know of anything else to try. I have tried UTI mode and SOL mode both with about every setting tweaked under each. Again it works perfectly other than it won't quit draining the batteries all the time when its not supposed to be running on the battery at all. Disconnecting the battery doesn't seem to bother it so I guess when there isn't a battery to torture it goes and gets its idle consumption from the grid like it is supposed to do in the first place.

While I don't use the grid except when I'm in maintenance on the system, sounds like something isn't set right. Can you post your settings here? I can try to replicate your scenario here and see what I come up with.

I would think #1 UTI, #6 SNU, #28 30, #34 MIXLOD, #37 54, #46 DIS

#8 USER, #9 absorb charge limit (for me it's 55.2) #11 Float charge limit (for me it's 53.6)...

Sounds about like what @42OhmsPA and I had tried last night while attempting to get it working again.

I will be doing a factory reset in a few hours (installing more batteries right now so can't) since tech support wanted me to try that and I will see what it does and I'll post what I adjust the settings you mentioned to since those are the ones I was trying before.

It works perfectly other than it won't float. It just keeps draining the battery down when in uti/snu/mixlod.

It appears to be using the battery for its idle consumption even when its drawing from the grid to run loads at night.

I don't think that there's any way to avoid it.
The controls must run from the battery, so that it can remain alive if the grid drops out. And be able to switch to battery mode.
Otherwise there would be a delay, between the controls loosing power and restarting on battery.
But if you allow a small amount of grid charging, it should counteract the drain.
When I was connected to the grid, 5a grid charging solved it for me.

I may rig up something like that. I have the chargeverter but I don't have a socket in the workshop to run it right now as its meant for the generator stuff if needed.

My tp6048 didn't do this. If it was pulling from the battery for it then it had enough common sense to charge the battery itself to compensate for it :)

I can't believe I just did this but I just ordered a 5 amp 48v lithium charger off amazon to power my 10,000 watt inverter's idle consumption addiction.

I will be powering this off my 12v solar system.... This just seems sooo wrong on so many levels. But if it works it works.

It gets here wednesday so we will see if it will handle it. I hope the power thing doesn't get fried the first time 250 amps is sucked off the battery bank.

Oh the reason I went the mini charger route is because the chargeverter is going to use to much power to justify it for this for now and I have the 12v system sitting beside it so technically it won't cost any power to do this as long as the little charger doesn't get fried from big draws on the battery bank from time to time.

I'm going to try and replicate this week, like I mentioned last night. I can feed the ASPs with the ASF or vice versa to simulate grid.
I'll also dig back in SA data and try and find when I was using utility in the winter to see what the ASF was doing.
I'm still on the ASF in the attached charts from today. It does float just fine with the grid turned off.

Edit the charts from winter don't really help, I don't think I was in the same modes.

Also going to ping @Lighthouse Beacon , I know he is running the non parallel version and may be able to offer insite on settings or if the same behavior is seen.
Whatever you test with has to have grid type power in (can be from any source aka your other inverters) and have a battery hook to it. That's about all that is required for the weirdness to set in :)

Without a grid source you can still spot it in sol or util mode. I don't think it will show up in sbu mode since its source from the battery for everything anyways.

Sorry for the delay I just got a battery added that came in today and resting before going back out and installing another one.
