I believe the land mass of North America is about 20% larger than the land mass of Australia.
That usually often surprises many Americans.

Distance Seattle to Miami 2730 miles.

Distance Perth to Brisbane 2241 miles

North America is something like 3x larger than Australia.

Are you ignoring Canada? I mean, we do that in the USA but I didn't think it was a worldwide thing.

O/k.
If you wish to include all the "territories" such as Hawaii, then Australia is vastly LARGER than America.
Check out the size of Australian Antarctic territory, you might be really surprised.
Hawaii is not a territory of the US, its a state. That's like saying Tasmania doesn't count towards the size of Australia. And Australian Antarctic territory isn't part of Australia in any meaningful sense. Its the part of Antarctica that Australia lays claim too, but I wouldn't count it towards the land area of Australia like you would with the Northern territory or the ACT.

Edit: Getting way off topic but I did the maths, Australia is about the same size as the contiguous US (lower 48) minus the state of New Mexico. Australia: 7,741,220km2, Contiguous US: 8,080,464.3 km2

You guys are splitting hairs.

I take North America to mean the area between the Mexican border and Canadian border.
I take Australia to be just the Australian continent itself ignoring Tasmania.
The difference in square miles between the two is roughly about 20%

Well I think you'll find yourself alone on that. Most people take North America to mean the continent of North America, meaning the US, Canada, and Mexico. I hardly think that the most commonly accepted definition of North America is "splitting hairs"

That might be your personal view, and that of many Americans.
But Canada is a different country altogether.
Different Government, different military, different laws, even has border check points between the two countries.
Joe Biden is not (was not) the President of Canada and never was.

I doubt if most people living in either Canada or Mexico would call themselves Americans.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the discussion? No one said anything about Canada not being a separate country or Joe Biden being the president of it, so I have no idea where that's coming from.

The point is that the continent/land mass that the countries of Mexico, USA and Canada are located on is called North America. Do you have a different name for that land mass?
And the part between the Mexican border and the Canadian border is generally referred to as the contiguous united states or the "lower 48". Before today I've never heard of anyone refer to just that part of the continent as "North America".

Joetato isn't the President of North America either. it's called the United States of America

O/k I see your point.
America to most Foreigners refers to what you define as being the United States.
That being different to South America which a different place entirely.

So the United states located on the continent of North America has only about 20% more land mass than the continent of Australia.
If you overlay scale maps of both, you will see that is true.

Well... 20% more if you only count the contiguous 48 states...
It is likely double if you also include Alaska... which is in north america also.Screenshot_20240724_195547_Google.jpgScreenshot_20240724_195515_Google.jpgScreenshot_20240724_195451_Google.jpg

I stand corrected.
Alaska doesnt add as much as i thought.

The real shocker, even for Australians is the size of Australian Antarctic territory.
An Australian hero, Sir Douglas Mawson was down there in the early 1900's planting the flag all over the place and claiming territory for Queen Victoria and the Empire.
Funnily enough there were zero American Antarctic explorers planting the US flag down there.
On the Moon yes, but never in the Antarctic :)

We even have a trade agreement called the North American Free Trade Agreement. If North America meant only the United States, then that would be a pretty funny agreement. But sometimes we don't agree with ourselves, so...maybe not so funny.

So where do they think Canada is located?

I have always found the Global Map Size distortion from the Equator to the Poles to be very Interesting.
In this Map I have moved Greenland and Antarctica next to the USA and it is Amazing how much visually smaller the land masses are when corrected.

I will make some videos on these batteries. Just reading about the issues people are having is making me excited. These are the types of batteries I LOVE

Look at these prices! Who would buy these:

Check out their "extreme deep cycle LFP battery". LFPs already are known to go from 100% charge to 0% charge without significant harm to them; this is normal. In light of this, what do they mean by "extreme"?

Most manufactures do not recommend discharging LFP batteries below 20%.
There extreme batteries are probably them throwing caution to the wind and charging more money to compensate for warranty loses on the few people that will actually return them while they are still in business.

All the batteries have some form of exaggerated marketing, "deep discharge lithium" which technically aren't lies but standard operating parameters for lifepo4.
It's the outright lies people should focus on for example they claim their under bonnet lithium batteries can operate at 110°c but the battery spec sheets say a maximum of 60°c these claims are dangerous.
