Maybe a silly question. We have been on generator power for about six months and are slowly building our solar and wind system. I recently purchased a 24v 3000w pure sine wave inverter and will be purchasing building a 24v bank using lithium batteries. Can I charge the battery bank with a 12v battery charger or 24v?

A 12V charger won't charge a 24V battery bank. Think of voltage like water pressure a charger with "12 volts of pressure" can't push any charge into a battery that has "24 volts of pressure". Thinking of volts as pressure isn't a perfect mental model, but generally works.

Sorry it's been a while homestead calls. I should give a little background. I'm just starting to build my off grid system. Currently I have a 3000w 24v inverter. I have not purchase the rest of the parts for solar yet. my wife has been patiently waiting for the house plugs to work. I was going to hook inverter into house system and just charge the batteries as needed until I'm able to get the rest of the solar built. So a 24 volt charger will charge the system? Do I have to disconnect the inverter prior to charging?

Short answer NO, though the inverter will draw current from the charger if left connected and powered on. If the inverter demand exceeds the charger capability it will continue to discharge the battery to make up the difference.
