I have learned grass fed and grass finished is two different things. I tried Butcherbox a couple months ago. (They are grass finished.) I'm not sure if I will continue, and still have a lot left...it's probably slightly more expensive?? IDK, let me know if you want to try it. I have a referral code if you want so I can get a credit of some sort. Also, Prime is the reason I rarely go to Whole Foods now. The number one quality I look for in grocery is same price for everyone. Don't want no loyalty program. They ruined that when they bought WF. They also used their ML to tweak pricing. Lowered cost of grass fed ground beef. But, you not only no longer get the buns for free. They doubled the price of the buns from $3 to $6. Typical AMZN deception style pricing.
Has to be local and never frozen. For me it is about taste, and the WF beef tasted the best. It's more about what it doesn't taste like. That grain diet puts in a lot of off flavors we've become accustomed to thinking is normal beef flavor. Then you try a grass fed, and it just has a really clean taste. That's what I love about it. And WF -- so far -- has had really good tasting beef. I still inquire every time... is this local never frozen grass-fed?I have learned grass fed and grass finished is two different things. You got me there. I guess I'd never walk inside if I thought they served recycled crap on a stick. ;pThe number one quality I look for is wholesome, nutritious food.
In reality, it's usually the other way around. They grass feed them, then often grain feed the last month or two to fatten them up. That's a tradition that has nothing to do with labeling."Grass finished" = fed cheap crap their whole life, then confined to a small area for the last few weeks of their life so they get fat, and fed grass so they can put it on the label, fyi.

But, for me, it's all about taste. IDC what the label says if it tastes clean. How they removed the grain taste -- which ironically I LOVE in beer -- isn't really critical to me. Regarding beer, well, much much higher quality grain than what they feed cows. I'm an all grain brewer with about 100 lbs of grain in my closet. lol
The worst is... did you hear about the guy the FBI arrested, this year IIRC, for labeling organic when there was nothing organic about it? He supplied 1/3 of the USA organic produce market!! They charged him, not because he simply lied or under any organic protection law, but because he was able to markup prices by labeling it organic... kinda like Amazon Prime. lolYes, very true, its ttpically done the other way around, but damn they are really sneaky with their labeling lately.
Ugh... when my family raised cattle in the 70’s we fed grain on the bale corral and let them graze all day. Cattle were well fed, the heffers always made the weight. Steers usually were light, so molasses dipped grain was used near sale term...Yes, very true, its ttpically done the other way around, but damn they are really sneaky with their labeling lately.
It is shipped to you frozen, and it's grass-fed.Has to be local and never frozen. For me it is about taste, and the WF beef tasted the best. It's more about what it doesn't taste like. You'll have more risk in the winter, though, as grass fed is difficult for farmers to maintain in the winter months in cold climates. Some may grain feed indoors until winter passes. Can't blame them for that. Have to keep them alive and healthy. At least I'd hope the beef came from the same good local farmers that do their best to grass feed.
There is no Butcherbox near me, so can't try it. But, thanks!
grain fed is bad, grass-fed goodUgh... when my family raised cattle in the 70’s we fed grain on the bale corral and let them graze all day. Cattle were well fed, the heffers always made the weight. Steers usually were light, so molasses dipped grain was used near sale term...
Is that good or bad?
They should ship it in ice packs unfrozen along with a nice Maine Lobster. lolIt is shipped to you frozen, and it's grass-fed.
No I didn't hear. That's just.... :-/ messed up.The worst is... did you hear about the guy the FBI arrested, this year IIRC, for labeling organic when there was nothing organic about it? They use really good insulation and dry ice. The dry ice melted though. I got Maine Scallops in the order, but they shorted me a pound. I haven't had lobster since being on a cruise. Yumm! I wish they had it!They should ship it in ice packs unfrozen along with a nice Maine Lobster. lol
Glad I rarely eat corn, soy, or wheat. I am ketogenic mostly. And the highest levels of glyphosate are on corn and soy...thanks Roundup/Monsanto/Bayer.
We were discussing alternatives to Amazon and their monopoly.LOL, how did this thread get over to beef....
