Noise level from solar system?

I’m considering installing a roof mounted system using 20+ REC Alpha Pure 410w panels, and EnPhase IQ8 microinverters. Our house has comp-shingle roofs on three levels and our bedroom is in the middle, higher level. Therefore our bedroom will look out over two of the roofs.

I’m a VERY light sleeper and concerned about noise from the system, especially because I like to sleep with the window open and the closest panels will be about 10 feet from my bed.

Microinvertors > The spec sheet for the microinverters shows they are rated at “Acoustic Noise at 1m <60dBA”. The sales person insists that the microinverters make ZERO noise. If that is true, then why would the manufacture state “<60dBA” ? Do microinverters make any noise? How much? Is it low pitch? High pitch?

Rails > Because the mounting rails lift the panel off the surface of the roof, how noisy can does it get when wind is blowing (beyond the normal sound of the wind)? In other words, is it common there is some whistling or other sounds that are introduced as the wind goes under the panels?

Panels > I understand the panels themselves are silent, but how loud might be from rain hitting the panels? We decided agains a standing-seam metal room due to the increased sound from rain. Do rail-mounted panels tend to get noisy in the wind?

Thank you.

My panels aren't mounted in the traditional roof mounted way. I'm sure they wouldn't pass inspection either. Picture the roof eaves with one panel mounted on the roof but right on the edge and another mounted next to it overhanging the roof.
In the 2 years I've had them up there's been many windy days and there was only one time when there was any noise caused by the wind blowing past the panels. It was the last set of panels at the corner of the house that were making a slight howling noise. But the way my panels are mounted I would have been surprised if they didn't make noise every now and then. And as for the rain it would probably be quieter
As to your inverters. If they make any noise it would only be during the day when the sun was shining, so unless you sleep during the day then I don't see a problem.

The only noise would be wind noise.
But, you probably won't have a window open during storms.

Something to consider. Is <60dba per microinveter? It says <60dba at 1m. But is that for all of them and a whole array, or just 1?

I agree with Tim it's probably nothing, or neighbors would complain, but From an audio point of view, 60db is soft, but it is something.

I can't imagine an Enphase micro-inverter would generate any audible sound. String inverters with in-built fans certainly can be noisy.

The only thing I would be thinking through for windows located above PV arrays is occasional reflected sunlight/glare. Depending on the angles this can sometimes be an issue, obviously not all the time but it's one to consider.

A micro inverter has AC inside it, so I would expect that there would be some 60 Hz hum in it. Just like what you would hear from a utility substation or transformer.

BUT, I would expect it to be not all that noticeable during the day with all the other sounds in nature and home unless you were standing on the roof. Likely it would virtually non-existent at night.

That's my two cents...
