I’m considering installing a roof mounted system using 20+ REC Alpha Pure 410w panels, and EnPhase IQ8 microinverters. Our house has comp-shingle roofs on three levels and our bedroom is in the middle, higher level. Therefore our bedroom will look out over two of the roofs.
I’m a VERY light sleeper and concerned about noise from the system, especially because I like to sleep with the window open and the closest panels will be about 10 feet from my bed.
Microinvertors > The spec sheet for the microinverters shows they are rated at “Acoustic Noise at 1m <60dBA”. The sales person insists that the microinverters make ZERO noise. If that is true, then why would the manufacture state “<60dBA” ? Do microinverters make any noise? How much? Is it low pitch? High pitch?
Rails > Because the mounting rails lift the panel off the surface of the roof, how noisy can does it get when wind is blowing (beyond the normal sound of the wind)? In other words, is it common there is some whistling or other sounds that are introduced as the wind goes under the panels?
Panels > I understand the panels themselves are silent, but how loud might be from rain hitting the panels? We decided agains a standing-seam metal room due to the increased sound from rain. Do rail-mounted panels tend to get noisy in the wind?
Thank you.
