I was super impressed when I saw the video where the folks at EG4 lit the EG4-LL on fire and triggered the suppressors. I'm curious as to what exactly is in the fire suppression modules and how these things work. Aside from the video, I can't find anything at all about these things - not even in the manual.

EG4 team, if you read this, please include detailed info on the fire suppressors in your next manual revision.

Those are pretty cool! Might have to look into some of them.

From the video, the ones in the EG4-LL look to me like a small maybe 3 inch metal square. Even if those tubes are part of it, I can't imagine a significant amount of ABC chemical and expellant would fit. I'm thinking it must be gaseous - maybe halon? Whatever it is, it was effective in the video.

*EDIT - just noticed the "ABC chem" in the Blazecut product is HFC gas, not typical dry-chem. Probably the same in the Eg4 battery. Can anyone confirm?

How is it used? Ie what's the cable -- is it electrical trigger, or is it triggered by fire?

What I assume is that the cable is triggered by the heat of the fire (170C, according to the specs).
So it doesn't require power? it isn't clear from the specs, since the specs say 700 mA starting power, so I think this has to be triggered by electronics -- ie this isn't a passive component

To be honest, I don't know. The device itself only has the one cable coming out of it. At the end of the cable there's like a shiny rubber nub that looks like the type of thing that will melt and trigger the reaction. If there is a way to connect electronics to it, I'm not sure what it is. It also seems weird to me that it would be triggered by electronics when it's meant to engage in an "oh shit" sort of scenario. If my battery is on fire, I would hope that the fire suppressor would be engaging based on heat, not on something else sending it a signal.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any sort of installation documentation or tutorial on these devices.

The same company has a similar circular extinguisher that looks similar to the model I have: https://www.awarefire.com/battery-fire-extinguisher/

One difference between the model I have and this one is that latter has two cables running from it, presumably one for thermal and the other for electrical activation. Mine only has the one thermal activation cable. Other than that, the devices look fairly similar. I wouldn't be surprised if the core extinguisher pieces are all made in the same place.

They just recommended these for the diy 16s battery boxes, I am going to get a quote for 14 of them.
