I have an old system that has been good. But learning Klingon is easier than reading Outback manuals so I pretty much figured it out on my own. And I am electricity challenged. Old, too. 76. Now I am just challenged in every way. have been living otg for the last 20 years on a remote island up the bc coast....meaning: I have to do everything myself. I am thinking of getting 600 ah of 48/51v batteries but haven't a clue if I can wire them into my old system. I think I need to make a separate system with the old and the new separated by a switch. Plus I am gonna need a new 5000v genset and battery charger. Any input or recommendations on that?

Hello, welcome to forum.

To address the task at hand, more details may facilitate assistance.

May I ask more details about the "old system"?

Any information like make, model, specification etc might help responses to help.

Thank you ?

Nice solar panels

5000W I hope. Yes, you need money. With enough money you can make almost anything happen. You don't want to mix battery types on the same bus. Give us a little more information, like what kind of gear you have. Might be as simple as swapping in new batteries and MPPT's, kinda depends on what you have, and how much power you need.

@coastalhermit, I've got to hand it to you, you are a real trooper. Hopefully the folks on here can help you out. Like said above, we need more info on what you have. I have a 12 year old Schneider XW6048, and just replaced my older AGM's with 400ah of lithium. This older charger, with a few adjusments, charges the lithiums just fine. Hopefully your Outback equipment will do the same. I think it would make your life easier to only have one bank of like batteries. Sell your older batteries (if possible), & go with new, if your funds allow. As far as the generator, do you have anyone somewhat local that can install, and work on it if you have issues down the road? What brand would they suggest? How are you going to power the generator? Propane, gasoline, diesel? How hard is that to get to your island/homesite? Propane powered would probably be best choice for lowest maintenance.

Good luck, and keep us posted - we would all like to help you get a good outcome.

At least you have an excuse, I'm not quite old and confused.

But, give all the details you can, some great minds on here that love to help out.
