I'm looking into where i could fit an inverter/charger in the caravan.

Question 1 - The best place would have it mounted flat. Is it okay to do this?

I would of thought it wouldn't matter.... but not sure.

Question 2 - The on/off switch is a pain. Do others just leave their inverters on 24/7? I assumed i'd just switch on and off when required as our needs are in the, never really use it category.

advise please?

Flat is fine ... air circulation is really what you are wanting .. make sure the fan is NOT blocked and has a place to push the hot air coming out

If you leave the inverter on all the time it can draw (depending on the model) a good chunk of power just sitting there in idle...

you can always open the inverter and wire a remote switch .... you can probably YOUTUBE that

You can do the switch thing, in fact if you want to get messy.... you can link it to a Wifi relee to control that with your phone or put some timers... someone else posted a youtube video about it!

they save it only consumes 25w in standby. Not sure how true that is.

Yes i could hack a switch pretty easy :)

I have airflow :) im adding 2 x 12cm fans to pump out through the fridge vents to the outside.

If you can live with the standby power drain , leave it on. Most electronics fail on switch-on because of high inrush current.

Remember that 25w per hour is 600w a day so it’s not insignificant.

True

I am purchasing a cheap and chearful - EASun Isolar SMV3KW . But also the wireless transceiver with it which allows it to be app connected. I assume i can ramp up and down the inverter and turn it on and off.

My only concern with a on/off switch hack is will it turn off the entire unit. When i just want to turn off the inverter.

Has anyone with an MPP Solar product (same model) shed any light on this?

Thanks

heres a thread. the on/off is only for the inverter. Sweet :)
