2 Growatts 5000ES after reboot No Power Out

I've 2 Growatts 5000ES in parallel mode. After a full hard reboot (power off / total disconnect during the night because of heavy thunderstorm), both units were switched on again this morning and came up. Everything looks fine, except there is no power output.

I don't hear the relays clicking in both units, which you normally hear when output is switched on.

Solar is up, LiFePO4 batteries (5 x Pylontech US3000) are 32% SOC and charging. Grid is online. See photos of both units and batteries.

Normally after powering up, after a few seconds, I hear the relays clicking and switching on power output. But now everything works the same, except this last step. There are no error messages, warnings or alarms.

Any ideas? Please help, because with zero output, the whole system is unusable.

No, not tried that. To do that, I must reconfigure to single mode, instead of parallel mode.
Or is there a smarter way to temporarily try just one.

It did the trick. Thank you!

Apparently I have to switch on the Growatts one AFTER the other, while waiting for Growatt 1 tot finish booting. And THEN switch on Growatt 2.
What I did was switching on Growatt 1, and after 2 seconds, switching on Growatt 2.

I will explain below what I did, just in case someone else runs into the same issue:
  • First I switched off Growatt 2 with the switch on the bottom right. I left Growatt 1 on.
  • Then I disconnected the grid, solar and battery, so both Growatts went completely powerless and off.
  • After that I switched on the battery bank. Now Growatt 1 started booting (since the switch was still on)
  • After a short while, I heard the relays clicking. And a short while after that, it clicked again and provided output power. Great!
  • Now I switched on the Grid, so Growatt 1 also had Grid power. But since it's daytime, it doesn't use the grid. Just solar.
  • After that, I switched on Growatt 2. After a short while this one also started providing power output. Great!
  • Finally, I switched on both solar arrays, one by one.
  • Everything is up and running again and providing power output.
Thanks again @timselectric :)

Glad you got it working. Ive had similar weirdness with my pair of Growatts but its never stumped me for more than a few minutes. I dont find it necessary to let one fully boot before the other. The main thing has usually been to leave them off long enough between attempts.

The thing is that I have these Growatts now almost one year and there have been several occasions that they stopped powering the house. Sometimes an error occurs and then instead of sending grid to the house, it completely stops and it leaved the house powerless. It's pretty frustrating when you're on holiday and when coming home you find your freezer completely defrosted.

So in my experience I cannot fully trust these Growatts. So I am thinking of changing them with Victron equipment. Need to find out exactly what to use, and I know it's more expensive, but I want/need a more robust/reliable system.

Growatts are good, as long as they function properly. Apparently for me that's not the case. But for now, it works again....

I havent had as bad of luck as you, but i think you are probably looking in the right direction with Victron as ive never really heard reliability complaints about them.

Maybe just look for a firmware update.

Look at the EG4 inverters 18kPV and 6000XP, they do recover gracefully from various power down/protection situations.
I really like those, but I am in Europe (Spain) and afaik I can't get any EG4 stuff, unless I buy them for example at SS in the US.
But even then. I don't know if they ship it to Europe and IF (big IF) they do, there are ridiculous shipping and import costs.

You could always try to get a LuxPower...

That might be a good idea indeed. But I have no idea how to update the firmware on those Growatts.
I will look into it.
If you have the Wifi dongle and it is connected to Growatt server, you can write an email to Growatt detailing both serial number of the dongle plus inverter and request for firmware update.

It took them one week to remotely update my Growatt Min-TLX and SPF 6000ES Plus.

We ship to freight forwarders and they bring it to you from the USA. ☀️
