Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

This looks really good. So much fun in that lot. It is looking more like this is a whole area ripe for ideas. You guys have so many. 16 distinct power levels - WOW. Looking at various videos, in this area, the devices being created are getting better & better.

Nice. Who wouldn't @ AU$2 - the postage is AU$4 . I hope you ordered a few at that price. The long time wait is agonizing.

Dave wrote back & said he cannot do it. He has too much work on & family commitments. I offered to pay for the 6,400KM round trip including his fees, accommodation & food. No luck. Thanks for the suggestion.

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

OK. That is difficult. I notice in Australia the energy meters calculate by the 1/2 hour to one hour - not by minutes. So if you use 1 KW at the beginning of the hour & put back 1KW before the end of the hour the meter will show zero consumption. I think it would be the same in the UK. Please...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Yes I tried various PWM devices. They all got too hot or fried. Just to be clear I am not sure what I was doing. Looks like you have the same MicroInverter I have. You can just plug it in to the bench top power supply without the PWM. Set it at 24-29V & 8Amp. You can ramp it up from there. I...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I am working on a solution to this - I think I know what I am doing. 2nd hand MicroInverters are dead cheap. If ever one blows just replace it. IMO Once we have a list of MicroInverters that work users can buy any on the list. This is hoping that this idea works and we get a section under...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I don't think I understood what I was doing - the first Boost Converter was dumb luck I think. But at least it encouraged me to go on. This is the mistake I made. I should not have tried to calibrate it to the MPPT / Inverter. This is a bridge too far for my understanding. I kind of get it...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Much Appreciated. OK. I hope their fears are unfounded especially if they operate at the lower end of the operating range. I can't wait until others test. I will try to test other MicroInverters also. Maybe we should have a list of MicroInverters tested so others can see what works & what...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Unfortunately I don't. On the bench top power supply it stays on the amps & volts I set. Yes it does. I use my bench-top power supply to check my inverters often. I have run the inverters all night no problem. This has not been my experience. I found the DCDC boosters flaky. Having said that I...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

A big thank you for this comment. It makes me feel like my (albeit kind of misguided) work may have come to some good validity - after waiting a great deal of time. You and a couple of others have shown good interest which pleases me no end. I just hope it all stands up to scrutiny.

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I had not realized this may be a problem. I use dedicated Ampton LiFePo4 chargers designed by an ex Schneider technician Frick. I also have no problem with the Victron Blue Smart Charger. I thought maybe the 20AMp fuse & wires I use might create some resistance to the initial inrush. I will be...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

I have measured 4 MicroInverters here are the voltages: 0.014 0.022 0.077 0.066 Thanks my understanding is improving - I think. I use the 4mm sq twin core solar cable to the Anderson Plug. Then I use 20Amp general purpose wire. None of it gets hot at all. It, now, makes me think this might...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

Ahh. OK. I use Microinverters on my roof. So all is 240v directly off the panels. So I charge my batteries during the day off my 240v power. Then I turn on the microinverters at night. A number of times I have left the timer on all day and the microinverter has run 24 hours even with the...

Using solar micro inverters with batteries instead of panels

B There is no surge. The MPPT? seems to fill the microinverter slowly. After about 5 minutes the green light comes on on the Enphase & it fires up. Enphase uses microinverters on their battery systems. They just stack them together. I have tried resistors. They just get really hot & make no...

I hear you. Other posts on this & other forums said connecting the microinverters directly to the battery would fry them. So I was trying to control the current. All my inverters are connected directly to a 24v battery & are perfectly fine. I have had one working with a buck converter for...
