How to control Samlex EVO with Electrodacus SBMS0

I just wanted to share a quick update to this post since another member of the forum asked for an update. I'm in the middle of a move and didn't take any notes so I apologize for the lack of specifics. Anyway, I did get the SBMS and the EVO to play nice using a version of twompark's circuit. The...

How to control Samlex EVO with Electrodacus SBMS0

I now have my own EVO 4024, batteries, and a SBMS, so I plan to start tinkering in the next few weeks. It's much easier to figure these things out when you have one you can test with. I'm sure we can figure out a way to get the two working together. I'm just hoping it doesn't get overly complicated.

HQST Compact 100W - Sent Renogy panel of incorrect dimensions

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got the situation resolved. I emailed HQST directly and they got me return labels for the Renogy panels. After receiving the returned panels they sent the correct HQST panels. The boxes were pretty beat up but the panels were fine and they were the correct...

Wiring and fusing 10 x 100 watt panels

Lol. You guys are hilarious. The panels are going on a van. My understanding is that since LFP batteries can pretty much handle whatever current the panels can throw at them and they don't need an adsorption or float stage so there's no reason to mess with PWM. The DSSR20s are just acting as...

Modbus capability of Samlex Evo inverter/chargers?

@Steve_S thanks very much for the information and the tips. Once I get the unit up and working in a test setup I'll get a rs485 adapter and start watching the traffic. Three quick questions, if you don't mind. Without giving away any info that could be a legal issue, is there a significant...

Wiring and fusing 10 x 100 watt panels

I'm starting to piece together the details of how I'm going to wire the panels on my van and I'd like to hear your thoughts. Here's what I'm looking at hardware wise: 10 x 100watt HQST panels (Panel sticker) Electrodacus BMS with 2 x DSSR20 24v LFP battery Based on my understanding of the...

Modbus capability of Samlex Evo inverter/chargers?

I just pulled the trigger on a Samlex EVO 4024 for my van build and I'm wondering if there's any chance of getting data out of it through Modbus. @Steve_S, I read one of your posts that indicated you were working on something but you had to sign a NDA. Have you made any progress with your...

HQST Compact 100W - Sent Renogy panel of incorrect dimensions

Just a quick update. I have been exchanging emails with sales@myhqsolar.com to get things straightened out. They did finally send me 10 Fedex labels to send the incorrect panels back. The panels are on their way back now. HQST did tell me that they will be able to send me the correct panels ( I...

    Controlling AIMS/SG/Renogy Inverter-Chargers with BMS

That's what I need to find out. If the rocker switch turns everything off I'm not too worried because I would plan to use the rocker switch only to protect against low voltage. Presumably, that would only happen when there is no AC shore power available so the unit wouldn't be charging anyway...

    Controlling AIMS/SG/Renogy Inverter-Chargers with BMS

Two questions for anyone who might have one of these inverters: Does the charger still operate if the inverter is switched off? Would someone be willing to try switching the battery selector switch between your selected battery type and "no charge" while the unit is charging? I'd like to know...

    Controlling AIMS/SG/Renogy Inverter-Chargers with BMS

The AC SSRs are a good idea if there's no other way to control the inverter. In the case of these units, they have a rocker switch that you can place an DC SSR inline with so that solves the idle consumption issue.

    Controlling AIMS/SG/Renogy Inverter-Chargers with BMS

Hi, I'm looking for an economical inverter-charger for my van build and i've been eyeing the SunGoldPower 3kw inverter-charger. One important factor is that I'm using an ElectroDacus BMS and I want to be able to disable the invert (Low voltage) and the charger (high voltage) independently. The...

    RNG-100D-SS vs HQST-100-SS

My conversation with Renogy went about the same. Very frustrating. I find it hard to believe that HQST and Renogy are not run by the same people since the address is the same. At the very least Renogy is drop shipping for HQST and should be partially responsible for incorrect orders. Since I...

HQST Compact 100W - Sent Renogy panel of incorrect dimensions

That's disappointing. Keep us posted if you're able to get things resolved or even get in touch with anyone. I started a return through Amazon but they only provided one shipping label so now I have to see if I can actually get them to contact me and sort it out.

How to control Samlex EVO with Electrodacus SBMS0

Hi. Just wondering if you've made any progress with this setup. I'm trying to figure out if there's good alternative to the Victron and this seems like a candidate, if your system works. Thanks

    Odd Size Panels

The fan is basically 20" wide leaving me 20" on each side. The ~59" x ~27" panels like the AltE panels were my original plan until I cam across the smaller HQSTs. Like you said, I could fit three up front and two in the back with just a slight overhang in the back. That could get me 1000w if I...

HQST Compact 100W - Sent Renogy panel of incorrect dimensions

Hi Austin, Like you, I wanted the 40" x 20" panels. I need to place 4 lengthwise in a row so the extra length of the 42" panels results in an extra 8" that won't fit. Also, as you mentioned, the Renogy panels are heavier, which isn't great. Yeah, the panel label with the specs of 40" x20" is...

    Odd Size Panels

Hi again, I had originally planned to use 10x HQST 100w Compact panels on my van roof for a number of reasons but I was sent the wrong panels (post). In the event that HQST doesn't come through with the correct panels I want to see if anyone can suggest decent alternative. I'll attach the layout...

HQST Compact 100W - Sent Renogy panel of incorrect dimensions

Hi, This will be a developing story but I wanted to share in case anyone has any suggestions or was thinking about ordering the same panels. Basically, I ordered 10 x HQST 100w COMPACT panels because they fit my van roof perfectly. What I actually received was Renogy RNG-100D-SS panels which...

Epever Triron and cold temp solar disconnect

Thanks for the details and confirming their operation. Is there a specific setting that needs to be changed to enable low temp cutoff vs the normal temperature compensation? Were you using 25C just for testing? I assume that should be changed to close to 0C. Thanks.

Epever Triron and cold temp solar disconnect

ScottyBeee, I've been trying to find someone who has confirmed that the low temp cut-off on the epever scc actually works. Did you ever get your unit installed and have you been able to test the low temp cut-off? Thank you.

    EPEVER Low Temperature Protection

Does anyone have experience with the Epever SCC low temperature protection for lithium batteries? It's not really advertised anywhere that I've seen but if you read the manual for at least the Triron and Tracer AN, it seems to be a feature. See page 37. " When the temperature detected by the...

    Charger(s) suggestions for 10x100w panels

I'm dreaming about installing a full inverter drive mini-split. How are you measuring the surge current? I have a kill-a-watt that I've been playing with on a regular portable ac unit but I'm not sure it's giving me the whole story. Maybe need to try a clamp on meter and see how it goes.

    Charger(s) suggestions for 10x100w panels

Thanks for sharing your experience with the dual controllers. I've also read of others doing the same so it sounds like, while it might not be the "perfect" way to do it, it's certainly acceptable and effective. I still haven't decided if I should go with one large scc that can handle 150v/50a...

Growatt 3000 AIO and low temp cutoff options

I'm planning to use a Growatt 3000 in my van build and I'm trying to figure out how to handle a low temperature charging cut-off. Can anyone with this unit answer the following questions? Is it true that the mppt charger continues to operate even when the power switch is turned off? Does the AC...

    Charger(s) suggestions for 10x100w panels

Thanks for your feedback so far. 24v sounds like the way to go. Regarding the inverter, I'm not planning to power anything with a large surge current. I'm hoping to use an induction cook top (1800w) and a 9k btu inverter mini split that should pull under 1000w. I can always turn on the ac when...

    Charger(s) suggestions for 10x100w panels

I'm looking for configuration and charger suggestions for the solar panels I'm going to be installing on my van. The only set hardware at this point is the 10 HQST 100Watt panels. They fit my layout and the price is right so those are a done deal. I'll be charging Lifepo4 cells but I haven't...

Sanity check before ordering panels for van. 5x190w with GroWatt 3000?

I'm shooting for a 2kw-3kw inverter so I'm planning on building a diy 24v lifepo4 pack of at least 4kw. Panels are 12v so I'll need at least 2s. I've heard about the fan noise issue with the MPP brand AIO units. I was under the impression that the Growatt might be quieter. It'll be under the...

Sanity check before ordering panels for van. 5x190w with GroWatt 3000?

Hi, Like so many others I'm building out a camper van and adding solar. I'm ready to pull the trigger on the solar panels but I'd like to make sure I'm not missing something obvious. I have my eye on the Rich Solar 190w panels since I can just barely fit five panels on my Promaster's roof. My...
