DC-DC charger (B2B) options and general discussion

As I understand the Kisae, if you connect the ignition sense wire it will not drain the starter battery, only charges when engine is running.

Who has experience with (blue) aluminum cells in a mobile system?

As mentioned before, not all blue aluminum cells are created equal. I have the Overkill version which has robust studs. My eight cells (200 AH) are in the Overkill stainless rack with Gorilla tape around them. I have been driving over washboard Mexican dirt roads weekly and have made several...

    Overkill BMS

Keeping in mind nothing in life stays the same, I advise the upgrade to 8 awg...in this case bigger is better and it would be a big pain to upgrade later. When I ordered mine I was planning on a 2000 watt inverter...I ended up with a 3000 watt inverter. I am very happy with my Overkill BMSes...

Charge controller only works when the battery is already charged?

1.Charge controllers, in general, will not charge fully discharged batteries for safety reasons. 2. Alligator clips are inadequate for charging connections. If you stop discharging before the battery is totally discharged your scc will recharge the battery without needing another charged battery

    Help with BMS selection

I have a 3000 watt inverter and two 100 AH batteries, each with an Overkill BMS. I have run my 1500 watt space heater and mt 15 amp chop saw without a problem and think there is an insta pot in my future...not worried about the Overkill BMS

lithium battery with any controller could be a wrong idea??

Hi @snoobler , first let me preface with I'm old and have a poor/faulty memory. I do have an Overkill BMS and when it did a LVD it then would not accept a charge. With Steve's good support I went in to the BMS settings and lowered ( temporarily) the LVD setting which then allowed the battery to...

EVE matched cells, some cells drops very fast

Adding solder also is a problem in mobile applications because those connections are eventually adversely affected by vibration.

DC>DC charger AND isolator? Or instead of isolator?

I have been watching my BM-712 and the draw is .15 amps, of course your draw will depend on your equipment. My draw reflects keeping the capacitors in my 3000 watt inverter charger and the Kisae DMT 1250 as well as an LED volt meter, the Victron battery connect, which has an LED flashing and all...

How do I find the bad cells 500AH Fortune pack for Sailboat

Captain Bill on a separate but perhaps (or not) note, that looks like an engine motor mount in your picture which might indicate your installation is in a very hot location which would really potentially shorten the life of your expensive batteries. The heat in my engine room eventually fried...

EVE matched cells, some cells drops very fast

It seems like many people coming to the forum with individual cell issues were too impacient to follow the steps to properly top balance before assembling their battery packs and then have a lot of brain damage trying to fix their aberrant cells after the fact. Also seems like many have not...

Sizing Inverter to Account for Inrush Current

Which is wonderful because of how short it is we can get good performance from quality inverters. Today I vacumed out my van with my shop vac and it's startup was no different than when plugged into the grid.

DC>DC charger AND isolator? Or instead of isolator?

Indeed, as @Reed Cole says, negligible. My panels have been disconnected for more than a week and my batteries have not dropped a volt.

    One cell charging to fast

Don't know if it is bad but do your process was faulty. You should have top balanced them slowly with a regulated power supply at about 10 amps until all of the cells came up to 3.65, could have taken a week with the cells connected in parallel.

AC distribution panel from Growatt 24V SPF 3000TL

I have installed 3 outlets on 3 separate breakers and used Leviton GFI receptacles, one would not turn on and after lots of futzing with the multimeter I determined the breaker was defective (Square D 15 amp).

DC>DC charger AND isolator? Or instead of isolator?

Right this minute my panels are "off" and my BMS is showing no current flowing. The Kisae is connected to the batteries but when I disconnect the PV input even though the Kisae is still turned on the display is off, seems as though its use is not measurable by the BMS, later when I am up and...

BMV Total AH Consumed, Battery Voltage, and % remaining.

Sizing Inverter to Account for Inrush Current

I had the same issue with my portable table saw that is rated at 15 amps/1800 watts. I used google and came up with surge of 5400 watts so I went with an inverter with a surge rate of 6000 watts and seems to have worked out. I say seems because I only have tested my 15 amp chop saw which passed...

    Victron Battery Protect and Inverters

Interestingly, they consider themselves a manufacturer and wholesale distributor, not responsible to the final consumer. Well, of course you are very welcome, and I would like to see your van as well.
