    Breakers or Fuses and Switches?

MrAubin, I’m sorry to say other priorities have taken me away from this project for a while and I haven’t moved forward. As a result I’ve made no decision yet. Hopefully that’s about to change and I’ll get this project going again. I’m still eager to hear of others’ experiences. Thanks for...

    Breakers or Fuses and Switches?

I'm planning a simple system and would like advice/suggestions on breakers vs. fuses/switches: The system: - Single 100w poly panel - 20a PWM SCC - One 12v SLA 100 amp hr. battery - 10agw wire - Loads are LED lights and DC fans. The problem: I like the idea of in-line breakers so I can also...

    Panel wiring

Hello! I’m also new to solar and have been voraciously reading forums and watching videos. I feel I can answer this as I just did this with my first panel this morning :-) Yes, connecting your multimeter directly to the leads from the panel is appropriate. This measure is shown on your panel as...

    Undercharge Protection?

DIYSolar123 thank you for the input. This will be an unattended Sealed Lead Acid, DC only system - no inverter. Over Voltage: I trust the SCC not to overcharge the battery. Under Voltage: I was thinking of using this LVD but would like advice on where to place it and use fuses...

    Undercharge Protection?

Thank you for your input. This will be running unmonitored in a shed so I’d need to trust the automation since no one would hear a battery monitor alarm. Which MPPT do you use, and have you observed it cutting off the load at the proper voltage you selected? Since under voltage protection is...

    Undercharge Protection?

I have this system on order and a 100ah lead acid battery from MightyMax. This is my first build and I don’t want to ruin the battery! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S8NHB4W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_48ZM2C86XWY7RB1NE8HV Does anyone have experience with this PWM controller to know if you can...

Repurpose Old Astronergy Panels - Help!

    A. Yes, the panels are reported to be free! I’m hoping to hear back about them soon. B. Someone told me a 34v panel into a 12v battery would not work. That’s when I learned that a 150v 40a MPPT would be needed to manage the down-volt to safely charge a 12v battery. Is that correct?

Repurpose Old Astronergy Panels - Help!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I still need to learn about Vmp & Imp. I’m leaning toward a 12v battery due to the ease of connecting so many available 12v devices. I haven’t learned how to connect 12v devices to a 24v battery. It seems like MPPT is just the way to go, regardless if I can...

Repurpose Old Astronergy Panels - Help!

Been reading this forum for a while and excited to finally get started with a project of my own! I may have the opportunity to pickup some used 10-year old 180w panels by Astronergy. I only have a blurry JPEG to go off, but it looks like model CHSM6612M, 34.39v, and 8.73a. Use Case: - Building...
