Today's Solar Eclipse Impact on generation :-)

Were you able to do this with the total eclipse? I see where you had mentioned trying to get those results also.

    DC Lighting plan

I would say if you are in a place you don't require permitting and are wanting DC lighting so you don't have to run the inverter 24/7, then go for it. Problem is those long runs and finding the dc voltage lights you are looking for outside of 12 volt. Definitely need a buck converter like you...

Signature Solar - Pallet of Panels - Shipper Issue

I just received 27x395 watt panels. The delivery was canceled for Friday the 8th and rescheduled for Tuesday the 12th. They came straight from Texas to Memphis to Huntsville, but after the schedule change, they visited somewhere in North Carolina and Atlanta. The pallet was heavy. When I...

LFP for EV's projected to be less than $56 per kWh within 6 months

I'm in agreement on the price. There needs to be a lower entry point. I have a commute less than one mile and drive 200 miles in a single day, maybe twice a year. I'm not against EV at all, but how about a simple concept with normal door handles, isn't connected to the cloud and has heat and...

LFP for EV's projected to be less than $56 per kWh within 6 months

Well, I have been wishing to have 200 kWh of storage. Maybe by 2025, I can dollar cost average down my total capacity. Then I won't feel sick when I calculate my sunk costs!!!

What's the best solar-related item you bought in 2023?

I have been building my solar system using my shop as a test bed for 4 years now. I just purchased a 40 acre inholding in a national forest, on a river and is 3 miles from the nearest power pole. Fully wooded and about to get the septic and well dug. Clearing 4 acres for solar and cottage. This...

Using Tape to Compress LifePo4 Cells

That is what I'm thinking I'll do. I like how my plywood/threaded rod construct works to keep everything secure, but it is a pain to make for just a small 12 volt setup.

I really like the new powerpro battery..

This is the first prefab battery that has gotten my attention. I have always built my own 280AH packs, but the water proof- heated option and capacity got my attention. Never cared for 100AH server rack. They didnt offer anything I couldn't easily do myself and save money.

NOAH'S ARK: Index of LiFePO4 cell manufacturers

I agree. I just ordered another 4x280AH as spares from where i have already bought 56 cells over the last 2 years or so and paid $570 that includes $90 in shipping.

Feast or Famine, The off grid solar dilemma.

Alabama here too. The PV is all over the place, but it was a better day than most. At least you can make out the bell curve.

Testing EG4 6500 and DIY Batteries Future Offgrid

Meant to mention the solar input breaker is being replaced with this one.

Testing EG4 6500 and DIY Batteries Future Offgrid

I got the batteries from Amy that is talked about on this forum a decent bit. I have bought from her before. Shenzhen Luyuan? I think that is right. I actually think they might be a little cheaper now. Bought through Alibaba. I bought the BMSs from overkill solar.

Testing EG4 6500 and DIY Batteries Future Offgrid

Hello all. I just wanted to show the set up I'm currently testing in my shop for a cabin that is planned as soon as property is purchased. I did this first because I wanted to have it figured out before the stress of purchasing and building the off-grid cabin my wife and I have been wanting...

    BougeRV 100ah LifePO4

Sorry for the late reply, but that is the one. It still occasionally shuts off, but has never cut off under load. It is stationary, so movement isn't the issue. I think I just got handed a learning experience. Worse case is I cut it open, fix it and just keep the cells out of the case. I'll...

    BougeRV 100ah LifePO4

Ok. This battery keeps shutting down for no reason. Temp and voltage is OK. The BMS must be messed up. I can't recommend this to anyone. Better options out there.

    BougeRV 100ah LifePO4

Not sure what happened to my comments, but it did happen again and here is what my shunt shows. Any ideas?

EG 6500 low frequency vs high frequency

Just went back and saw where signature solar told what the problem was. That seems easy enough to correct.

EG 6500 low frequency vs high frequency

Well, after more research and the advice in this thread, I was changing my mind to the 6500 EX-48 high frequency option. However, I'm a little hesitant after reading this thread: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/problems-with-eg4-6500ex-buyer-beware.54597/

EG 6500 low frequency vs high frequency

The only heavy surge I will have will be an air conditioner. My 3,000 Growatt has handled it except when not used for a while. Seems after a couple of days of non-use, it needs more kick to start. It is a 13,500 BTU rooftop RV style A/C with a soft start. I guess my main interest is the split...

EG 6500 low frequency vs high frequency

Oops. Good catch. Should have been "The 6500 EX-48 high frequency has 6,500 watt output rating with 8,000 solar input capacity."

EG 6500 low frequency vs high frequency

I'm currently looking at the two EG4 6500 AIO inverters and I'm trying to decide which one. The 6000 EX-48HV low frequency version seems like the better of the two, but much heavier and higher idle consumption. It has a 6,000 watt rating with 7,500 solar input capacity. The 6500 EX-48 high...

Thanks. That is good info. I'll check and see.

    BougeRV 100ah LifePO4

So, I bought the BougeRV battery that Will reviewed where the BMS wasn't plugged in all the way. It has performed well running a 12v fan and using an inverter to power a CPAP on a few occasions. It has been about a month now. I have not tested capacity. I connected a Victron Smartshunt to...

    Silicate salt batteries in series?

Per the website, these do not require a BMS. They show a scenario of 4S2P for 48 volts, so you should be OK.

Another reason not to buy from a nobody website

Are you talking about the original OP? If so, I don't blame him for leaving. I enjoy the forum and knowledge gained here, but am very wary of posting anything, even questions.

    Steve_S update.

Hang in there. Maybe the "people" try to hook it all your gear themselves and learn a lesson the very, very hard way.

I literally know nothing - just introducing myself.

Yep. Get some pics up and specs. Starting small and working your way up is a good way to learn. That is how I did it. Folks on here can give valuable insight.

    Lifepo4 enclosure box

I put my batteries in a compressed pack to keep stress off the bus bars and terminals. I keep my charge and discharge rates pretty low, so I'm not too concerned about expansion, but even a little expansion/compression over and over and over could stress them.

What do you think, Battery prices going up or down by 2023?

I think the biggest factor will be geopolitical. Tarrifs, import restrictions and countered export restrictions. I know the powers at be are wanting to go full on green, but as we are seeing now, be prepared for a slow crawl to domestic production, be it the U.S. or Europe or elsewhere. Will it...

AIO cooling. Why is it done backwards?

My Growatt seems to pull in from the bottom and blows out the top left side. No vent holes on top, which I like so maybe dust doesn't fall though when the fans are off. I will say, when I'm maxing out the mppt or the ac to dc charger, it blows pretty warm.

I'm just here today to vent !

So we now know where grade "B" cells come from.

Signature Solar and shipping damage, are you a victim too?

I ordered and had delivered 10x370 watt bifacial panels from signature solar. It was delivered by R&L carriers. Driver helped me move the panels to my shop, warned me they would want to fall over immediately when the bands were cut. He helped me cut the bands so I could inspect. I guess it...
