Charging LiFePO4 at below 32F // BAD Battleborn advice

We have done several charge/discharge cycle tests with the BB10012 batteries at various temperatures. At 10c, they appear to lose at least 5% of rated capacity, when compared to 25C (77F) temperature. At 0c, published charts (not from BB) show a 10-18% reduction for Li, with a steeper drop in...

Any ideas on keeping an AGM battery bank in service?

There's a guy who has a large lead bank in parallel with a smaller lithium bank, full time, on a boat, and swears that it works just fine. I'm looking for the link. He uses a lithium charge profile. The lithium batteries handle the high-current loads and top-charge loads, while the lead...

What is the point in charging Lifepo4 all the way to 14.4v when we have about 99.8 SOC at 13.88 v ?

For Li, has anyone tried programming in a lower absorption voltage (e.g.: 13.8V), and then used the equalization function to absorb at a higher voltage (e.g.: 14.4V) at pre-programmed intervals (e.g.: once a week)?

    Travel Trailer 24v LiFePo4 / Solar / Charger / Inverter system setup...

If the battery has a BMS, it would disconnect before destroying the battery. Also, the brakes only pull a few amps - much less than I would have guessed. If a trailer gets loose, there are many other things that could break that would be more concerning.

Why did I buy 2AWG battery cables for my inverter?

For 90dg C insulation, I'm seeing maximum 130A for #2 wire. For 60dg C insulation, it's only 90A. The attached charts may be conservative, but they have served me well, as a guide.

Why did I buy 2AWG battery cables for my inverter?

I agree, except for special cases like this: Consider a 2000W inverter. The maximum continuous amps might be 190A, but the recommended fuse might be 250A. The run is short, so voltage drop is not an issue. How do you size the wire? My point is that in limited cases like this where there is...

Why did I buy 2AWG battery cables for my inverter?

The most important thing is to size the wiring to the fuse you intend to use. For 2000W, something around a 250A fuse is usually recommend, at which point most charts recommend 4/0, even for a short run.

LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

Relion is maybe the only one to do it right, for an internal heater that is internally controlled. Below 0dgC, all incoming charging current is diverted to an internal heater. When the battery is sufficiently warmed, the charging can begin. No battery power is ever used to run the heaters...

    Victron DC to DC charger

Alternator ratings are only valid at ideal conditions: sufficient RPMs and cool temps. A 65A alternator is too small for a 30A DC-DC. Victron makes an 18A. Speaking only for myself: I would want an alternator with a rating 3x to 4x the input current of the DC-DC. Our stock alternator is rated...

Victron Orion DC-DC charger not charging at full output?

Yes! Use #2 wire and connect directly to the starter battery, and the Orion will be happy. The starter battery acts like a big "spike-snubber", and its voltage will be relatively stable, so it's a good point to connect to IMHO (as opposed to wiring to the alternator). We use use an MRBF fuse...

I you're like me, you have lost count how many crimpers you have. Each has its place, and forte. Using the right crimper for the right job is 2/3rds of the battle.

Did I make mistake ordering weird LiFePo4 battery?

Interesting that the spec sheet of this battery indicates that it is not to be wired in series OR parallel. That's the first time I've seen a 12V LiFePO4 battery not able to be paralleled with other identical units. Or perhaps were they cautioning about paralleling with other brands?

    Battleborn batteries inverter startup issues

K8MEJ's solution is perfect. Step-start is SOP for heavy industrial equipment, and anything that uses large transformers, inductors, and/or caps. It's much gentler on EVERYTHING in the system. I'm mulling over the ideal resistor value. The resistor wattage can be exceeded x10 if the...

    Battleborn batteries inverter startup issues

Doesn't the inverter have an on/off switch? Why not leave it continuously connected to the battery bank, to keep the capacitor charged? My understanding is that the problem is only upon initial connection. The inverters I've seen have the monster capacitor across the DC input. Why...

Inverter Load Sense (low idle power) Mode

My Xantrex inverter has a low idle power "Load Sense" mode, which sends short 120V pulses to see if there is a load of 12W or more. If it doesn't sense such a load, it goes back into low power/idle mode, saving 1/2 of power. This drives my microwave oven crazy, as it beeps on with each pulse...

I REALLY messed up. (cold temps/deeply discharged LiPo)

Does this battery have a BMS? If so, it's unlikely that you killed it. You're just in low-voltage disconnect and you should be OK if you get it charged back up soon.

    Lion Energy Safari UT 1300 - $699 @ Costco

With the Lion batteries, I would try to put them side to side, and use heavy copper busbars, avoiding the vibration problem inherent with cables and lugs. Tow vehicle panel options? Or dc/dc renogy?

I'm planning on doing the same thing, mounting it to a roof rack, but making the panel easy to remove to ground-deploy as an alternative. My thought was to tilt the panel very slightly so that wind turbulence won't try to rip it off of the tow vehicle. The charge controller would be in the trailer.

    Wiring Diagram Review Please

Big ANL fuse should be very close to the 200Ah battery, before anything else. Is 250A the proper size for an 1100W inverter? Output of charge controller should also have a fuse or switchable breaker. I consider the main battery fuse to be the inverter fuse, since it's unlikely that you'll...

    2200w 12v wire/fuse size question

I would use 11.5V DC, since inverter will still work that low, and the current will rise accordingly. The rest looks great. For fuse size, multiply the amps by somewhere between x1.1 and x1.5, depending on your taste for equipment protection vs immunity from nuisance trips. For an inverter...

    Inverter fuse

Those are ultra fast acting semiconductor fuses. $60 a pop. Might be better than T-fuse in protecting an inverter from frying. We've used them in AC circuits that experience dirty line power.
