Small ~2kw Diesel Generator to run on waste oil

Keep in mind that the diesel engine you picked is not a low speed engine. It will NOT last as long as a good slow speed engine, like the small tractor engines for example. Essentially it will last as long as a lawn mower engine. The only advantage to it over a gasoline engine is that the fuel is...

    Solar powered Ham Radio station

Just curious… lazy old non-on-the-air ham here… Why wouldn’t it work just to turn off/isolate the noisy equipment while on the air? Do you work at night or? If so, it would be a very simple solution to just turn off the dirty equipment.

Chins - To seal or not to seal.

interesting. Did you ask ‘Chins’ about the difference? They have been very responsive with my questions.

Chins - To seal or not to seal.

Where did you buy the batteries? I got my 100 amp Chins from Amazon and the first two are just slightly different from the last 4. I ordered them a few weeks apart. The packing and documentation was the difference, not the actual batteries.

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

Just curious, do you use electricity?

    Heat without electricity recommendations.

YMMV… I’ve used unvented wall mounted propane fired heaters for LOTS of years. I’m 75 and still alive. Absolutely no issues with the heaters except keeping them running. The thermocouples tend to fail. Other than that, NO issues. YMMV… I am currently using a wood stove and fireplace as our...

Pv wire size for 130ft run at 185v / 25amps?

The calculator requires some sort of conduit. What about NO conduit, open air that is. I wonder if there is a calculator for that or is there a simple answer, or doesn’t it matter for this application?

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

I finally remembered to check the watt meter on the fridge. It has averaged 456 watts per day for the last 17 days. Not sure that can be beat. A 21 cubic foot fridge/freezer running on less power than a 20 watt lightbulb. Knock wood this thing lasts.

    Needing a PV Production Meter

Be careful with standard meters. I bought a box of them off ebay and installed one in my previous system. I accidentally installed the first meter upside down, that killed it. Apparently to keep people from running them backward. I had more fortunately.

What are the cons of using a swollen lifePO4 100ah battery?

I agree, look for one of Will’s teardowns. The insides of these batteries are much different than I expected. Foam padding could be pushing the sides out… or nearly anything. here is the video:

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

That is what the maker says. Danfoss apparently makes good stuff and the $$$ they get for it show. It is specialty equipment and as such demands a premium. My fridge in the camper pulls something like 600 watts running on 110 volts. It is an absorption unit and they have (had?) their place, but...

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

The spec says ‘up to 150 liters of box’ so that is 5.25 or so cubic feet.

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

I just looked at the spec on the compressor. I didn’t quickly find the current draw, but the size was scaled for ‘small’. Nothing wrong with that, but the cost/benefit doesn’t add up IMO. Here is the spec sheet for that compressor. It appears that it pulls from 50 to over 100 watts. For 5...

    24v batt to 12v inverter

I just went through this. My 12 volt inverter is moving to the camper.

Some ways to run a fridge on solar energy

So, the maximum that compressor can handle is a bit over 5 cubic feet. It costs more than half what a 21 cubic foot refrigerator costs. The real fridge runs on 50 watts or so. If you don’t want an inverter, I suppose that may be a reasonable choice, but for most people, it doesn’t seem to make...

Questions regarding 48v work from home camper setup

The name brand Kill-a-watt is 30 to 40 bucks on Amazon now. I’m running this one, less than $14 and it seems to be working well. It has been running on my new high efficiency fridge for a couple of weeks or so. Also tested on other items...

Questions regarding 48v work from home camper setup

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense. So, your power requirements for now are relatively small. What are the specs for the internet dish? How much power @?? How about the laptop? How far from town is your property? I ask because one option may be to go to ‘town’ to charge things in the short term...

Questions regarding 48v work from home camper setup

I would like to ask a few questions. You said you have land and a well. Is there grid power to the well? If so, why not spend the winter living in the camper (lots of people do that) and learn more about your requirements for solar. The solar power isn’t required to live in and work from the...

    Is this layout proper?

Well, that’s a shame. 40 bucks down the drain. Fooey Anyway, I will look for better busbars and consider this layout. I think it will be the one. My cables fit better this way.

    Is this layout proper?

Thanks! I ended up moving the busbars to a board between the batteries so I could keep all the connections to the 18” cables I have.

    Is this layout proper?

Ok, digestion complete. I still need help though. My visualizer isn’t what it used to be. Does this look correct now? (All cables to busbars and between batteries will be the same length)

    Is this layout proper?

They are Chins 100 amp 12 volt batteries with BMS. They told me it was OK to connect up to 6 in parallel. I had originally intended a 12 volt system, but changed after recommendations I got here. This system is designed and intended to provide power to a pellet stove (heat) and evaporative...

    Is this layout proper?

Thank you @acdoctor . I don’t know what that red mark is either. LOL I must have marked while making the “wires”. Yes on the charging both ‘halves’. I intend to keep this battery bank charged with the solar panels, but needed a way to charge, just in case.

    Is this layout proper?

I’ve read and searched and still don’t understand everything about what I want to do. I have six 100 amp 12 volt lithium batteries. I need 24 volts for my system. I found this layout, the website is in the pic… That appears to be exactly what I need, except I have 6 batteries instead of 4...

Help me avoid getting shocked please.

That seems to have worked. I turned off the batteries, turned on the inverter and it sang it’s normal song. Then I unplugged the inverter and it gave a dying beep. The 12 volt terminals then measured just under 4 volts. It is slowly dropping now. I won‘t be working on it until tomorrow, so I am...
