3D printed Deye 5kw Hybrid Fan Unit - SUN-3.6/5/6K-SG03LP1-EU

I’ve never seen mine get that hot, but my garage never gets above ~90F or ~32C. The AC runs when the output is high and the battery is >90%, that's why it curves down in the afternoon. This was on the hottest day of the year:

I think I might work out a custom temperature control with fans to keep it at a lower consistent temperature. It would be nice if it had an option in the firmware to set desired temp.

How are you pulling that data to make the graph? I have SA but don't think it will do that. I can only see inverter temp in the charts section and it doesn't break it down to ac and dc.

I’m still shipping my data to China in SOLARMAN with the dongle. I have a pi and a cable sitting, I’ll eventually work out interfacing with it myself or setup SA
 
Screenshots with Solarman Smart app showing temperature going up to 81 celsius.After cooling with external fan i managed temperatures around max 60 celsius.
I know several guys with 5kw Deye Hybrids by now.Some seem to have noisy built-in vents,some like mine dont.Still a miracle....

What is your cooling fan setup?
 
This is interesting... I'll def look into getting a fan attached to mine with some sort of temperature control
 
UPDATE!!!
I have 2 units in parallel - sharing the load equally, one fan unit had fly screen & a little dust - the other nothing.
56 & 41deg Celsius on the unit with fly screen
50 & 38deg Celsius on the unit without fly screen & there was noticeably more air flow out the top.
(compared with 65 & 47 without fans the day before with same temps & conditions)
So dont add any fly screen or anything else to reduce the flow - it makes a significant difference.

10deg difference on the DC
6deg difference on the AC

I guess I just doubled the life of my inverter!

lol I copied your idea. Bought 2 Noctua's from PC case gear and screws from bunnings. Sent your design to 3D print. Will post pictures when I get it installed. This is mine right now with no fans,

You know i charge royalties on the design right?
$0.05 per fan per RPM :ROFLMAO:
74!!! ouch... I'm guessing thats when you hit fully charged on the battery & the temp mostly correlates to battery power?
 
For power I used a Vigortronix PCB module & kit - they're nice & small, quality.
I put it inside the inverter & hook it up to the "load" (i.e. always on) power - as i'll be using mine as UPS, I want it to always be on if there's any power.

Hahaa :) Yeah inverter hits ~75C around 11:30AM.
Thanks for your power supply suggestion. I'm using a 2A 12V CCTV camera power supply to power the big JK BMS LCD display and I will use that to power the fans as well.
 
Some more info & results....
I tried putting some additional fans at the top of the units (my existing fans were at the bottom pushing air upwards) & no real improvement.

My temps: 28deg day, 62 DC, 47 AC, with 2 units in parallel (so perfect testing conditions!) - running 2kw each charging the battery.
Been running for an hour with the additional fans & there's no difference between the 2 units.

Maybe if you *really* up the air flow - to the point where its howling a bit, it would have some impact.
 
Hi all.

I was having the same issue with the Deye 5K getting hot, I have Solar Assistant installed which told me the internal temp of the Deye was getting to 90c.
We live just north of Melbourne AU and unfortunately we get some really hot days, last summer we had a run of over 40c days.
My inverter is in an insulated shed with power ventilation but it was just so hot inside the shed so I came up with a fan forced cooler for the inverter.

I set up a 12v computer fan on a panel that I made, the other half of the panel is bug mesh.
I have the earth to the fan running through a 30c thermal switch to turn it on and off automatically, the switch is just jammed into the heat sink on the rear of the inverter.
The fan dropped the internal temp by about 20 degrees C.
You was my inspiration ?

Just digged up this post.
I need to add some valuable information.
The noctua fans are great, for a computer case. As long as there is hardly any restrictions... Top!

Important is the static pressure.
My modification to silence the inverter (and improve the cooling) was swapping the 2* 80 mm fans by 2 x 120mm (ducted) silent wings 3
(Bequiet brand) their high speed model.

At top speed it's a soft buzzing, and still half the power from the 80mm.
Lots more airflow, and with a lifespan of +/- 35 years on top speed... I'm not worried for failure.

They will last longer then the inverter.

Anyways.. my 2 cents...

Check the back pressure of the fan you are going to buy, especially if there is some restricted airflow.

I guess I'm here at the right place. I noticed from the first day I got my sun-12k-sg04lp3-eu that the "DC Temperatur" is always on the same value. 25 Degree Celcius. Never make a little step down or up. Is there a chance that there is a bug in the operating system or the logger module. Cannot believe it can be so constant.

Hi! I had the same issue and I bought a set of 2 AC powered fans and created an automation on Home Assistant to turn on the fans when the temps exceed 45C. That way I'm able to extend the lifespan of my fans and my inverter too. I live in Prayagraj and we experience summers with ambient temps around 50C lol. With 40 C + summer, i have been keeping eye on the temperature of my 6kw deye hybrid and noticed that it has been hitting 90 C + everyday at peak generation.

I wanted to help the inverter with the cooling a bit, so i decided to add this fan unit which claims its peak rpm is 5000.

Attaching some pics below. The fan came with a regulator to adjust rpm but i installed it straight without the regulator so that it can run at full speed. After monitoring for a couple of days, i plan add a smart switch and automation for it to be powered only when the inverter temperature hits a certain value. and turn of when it has cooled down enough so that i can extend the life of the fan. Its like 1500 INR and they claim 60000 hrs runtime on the product, so we'll see.

As you can see, i just left it sitting on top of the heatsink and it is blowing air into the heatsink.

As seen in the temperature graphs, the fans were able to bring down the temp my almost 20 C within a short period. Graph showing temperature of yesterday and i installed the fans mid afternoon today when the temperature starts dropping steeply.


I will also see how it performs if i put it upside down in which case it will suck air from below instead of blowing and note if it is better that way.

installing it at the botton will need making a custom mount etc, and i don't feel like putting in so much effort as of now if this works.

I chose AC powered fans where I don't have to give a separate power supply to them. The fans are from an Indian Brand Rexnord and they have been happily working since 7-8 months with the automation which only turns them on after the temp hits 45C

I've just installed my Deye 6kw (+ 5kwh battery + 4kw PV's) and got +75°C DC temperature on hot summer days (in the place where the inverter is mounted is around +35+40), which was concerning.
After installing two 9mm 220V fans with temperature controller xh-w3001 temps dropped by 15 degrees to around 55-60°C.
Also, I can add that 2 fans can't downgrade temps below +55C. That's a limit for them in such conditions.
I think keeping temps below 60°C is enough.
