Assembling cells in a flat orientation

Just curious about about this. Any obvious disadvantages? With this orientation, I could make a much lower profile pack and it could sit in a smaller space. For reference, this is the config I was thinking of:

The specs on some cells say they have to be upright. In other cells it seems to be OK.

The potential issue with them on their side is that the electrolite inside may not properly cover/flood the anodes and cathods
