On a boat usually.
So I love my JBD's and absolutely HATE the JK's, but I find myself a bit lost. I'm penciling in on my To-Do list to put a 48v AIO in the pump house as a backup to the grid and the 1-gallon-an-hour-at-idle generator I have for my well pump, and I'm planning on whipping out the welder and DIY'ing myself a 300-ish AH battery. I'm really hoping I can use a 6000xp to fire up my 220v well pump (startup surge has me a little concerned) but to feed that I need a 16s BMS in the 150A and up range.

JBD has their 200a 7-21s BMS which requires combining a bunch of extra wires somewhere in the middle. They have 16s BMS's that all top out at 100a which isn't enough.

Daly has 16s BMS's in the amperage range, but not 100% sure I want to trust them, and their wifi setup is a PITA having to hit the button every time. Makes for a not-very-clean battery box build.

And then there are the other brands. Apexium? Batrium? Beryiilium? Electrium?? I've never worked with any of the rackmount type big boy BMS's out there, no idea where to even get them.

Anyone here used a BMS that isn't one of the Big 3 (JBD, JK, Daly) in a custom build? Thoughts? Experiences? Nightmares? App support? Tell me your stories please!

I do not make my own battery.
But i do think to go for a bms with bluetooth support .
So you can easy monitoring the battery and diagnostic.

My self looking in to it for beult my own battery .
So i gone follow this topic .
See what people think what is the best.

Jk bms can be connected to a inverter with a diy project.

JBD used to make a contactor based bms that was rated at 300A . Like a fool I sold mine to a friend in need. Mine was a 16s version and I ran it on a self-built LFP battery connected to a Growatt SPF5000ES. Maybe contact JBD directly - they may have NOS still. I love JBD and that’s all I use.all I use. 1719836728556.jpeg

I use JBD mosfet (not contactor) type so far. has been reliable.

refuse to use DALY from too many horror stories.

JK seemed cool, but now enough concerning stories that i'm still steering clear, despite the cool active balancing option.

REC and Batrium seem to be two "more premium" types that people seem to have decent experiences with. those just seem to cost more than the above, so there's that.

if i were to switch away from JBD it would likely to be REC or Batrium, still would do more research before committing to that change.

Orion Jr (a bit pricey) will operate a contactor and QUCC makes a contactor style BMS.

Unfortunately ZEVA in Australia has stopped selling their BMS16V3 but the design files are posted as open source if you really want a serious project and build your own starting with PCB fab and assembly.

It’s not difficult. I recently converted a golf cart to LiFePo using the JBD 300 amp bms from Battery Hookup to build a 230 Ah battery. You just jumper together the extra balance wires into one (I fed the extra wires into the ring terminal and crimped them in; no problem).

This is the bms I used: https://batteryhookup.com/products/7s-21s-24v-75v-300a-lithium-ion-bms

They still make them to the best of my knowledge, I just had one delivered last week. They did update the design a bit to cover the entire top.
I have 4 of them, 1 of the version you have pictured in 200A, 1 of the new version in 300A and 2 of the new version 200A, they communicate nice with Solar Assistant when you add the USB module and remove the bluetooth connection. (If you need to change the connector on the USB module to fit the bluetooth port you are looking for an HY 2.0 connector.

I did end up ordering an active balancer for the most recent back, I'm an idiot and didn't top balance... JBD just balance dammit

Feel free to admire my meticulous wiring 😉

Anyway I'd just go with JBD and top balance before assembly.

What ever BMS you get I agree that you need Bluetooth, can, or RS485. It is nice to know what is going on with the cells. When away I like to check on things so being able to connect it up with Solar Assistant and remotely monitor it is pretty darn important to me. The search continues...

I see they have JBD Smart accessories: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804529002284.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

JBD UART box pictured in my post above, and in your link, along with Solar Assistant are great.
I need to get another UART ordered for my 4th pack, thanks for the reminder.
