I’m planning a 2.5kW grid-tie solar install on a detached garage that currently has no power/wiring. I plan to bury conduit in a trench to feed a sub-panel in the garage to power lights/outlets/future level 2 EV charger. I will ultimately need to send the power from the panels to a net meter back in the house. How best to approach this? Do I bury 2 conduits in the trench, one feeding power from house to the sub-panel and a 2nd to send solar output back to the house? Can they be combined in one conduit? Or is there a simpler approach?

if you get a grid interactive inverter, the same AC that feeds the sub panel can be used to send back power to the house and ultimately net metering. Of course you have to size your breakers and cables correctly but 2.5kw is not much @ 240V

So you pull a #6 for 50A breaker to sub panel from your main panel and then you can tie your solar to the opposite end of the sub-panel with a 15A breaker and you should be fine.
