DIY bms around ESPhome

Has anyone here attempted building a diy bms using a esp8266 yet?
I know there is a daly bms sensor (not sure it works with the daly active balancer, else it would be sort of interesting for me too),
but all I'd like to have is the voltage of a 16s config.

But do you actually want to do all that? If you're just after cell voltages, you can get those from the UART port of several commercially available BMS's; I use an Overkill/JBD one.
