I was thinking of using this as a battery case and drilling some holes in it for wires / airflow / securing to Trailer. And removing most of the foam of course. Do you think this should work?

I’m worried the batteries might get to hot. It’s perfectly sized and i have a cooler by the same brand that is bomber. Do the lifepo4’s need much airflow?

LFP Batteries are normally enclosed in non ventilated plastic or metal boxes.
Look at any of the drop in LFP batteries that have prismatic or cylindrical cells inside them.
The BMS may get warm but the cells will not unless you are charging and discharging at very high rates.
Also you want to keep moisture away from cells and BMS.

Does anyone know if military surplus cases are still available? Saw some 20mm metal ammo cans, (about 17 x 14 x 9), but understand that there are now also plastic versions on the open market.

That does look like a perfect fit just enough room for Small BMS and good to go.
