Double panel voltage or not?

Is it better to wire my two 275w panels in series to double the voltage or parallel?

I have an epever BN series 40 amp scc.

I think I remember will saying it's better to have higher voltage for effiency?

Both options have their place. Without knowing context or any specifics, higher voltage should be the default starting point with an MPPT controller. However if partial shade is more of a consideration you may want to consider wiring in parallel.

My rule of thumb is: connect panels in series up to the Maximum PV Voltage specification of your SCC, then add further strings in parallel up to the Maximum PV Power specification of your SCC, with the caveat being to increase parallel combinations if partial shading is unavoidable.

Not quite as pithy as 'a stitch in time saves nine' but it works for me
