Hello,

I'm working with a solar installer to get an 18k PV and PowerPro installed. The solar installer has put together a plan that was approved by the utility. The plan includes replacing my existing pedestal with a new pedestal that has two outputs on each side in order to get the split output I need to use with the 200 amp transfer switch for whole home backup.

From my research, it seems like it would be way easier to just swap out the mechanical lugs on the AC disconnect for double lugs or lugs that can split the connection on the output side of the AC disconnect. This would avoid the expense of replacing the pedestal.

The solar installer is concerned that the AC disconnect is not rated for that type of lug and wouldn't be approved by the utility or electrical inspector. I don't have the answer to that question because the installer has so far been interacting with the utility and the inspector on my behalf.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

It could go either way.
A wider (double) lug can reduce side clearance.
And a taller (stacked) lug can reduce clearance from the cover.
If the disconnect isn't designed for multiple lug options, you may be out of luck.
