Most of those "springy" battery contacts are made of heat treated Beryllium Copper alloy and are Nickel plated or sometimes Tin plated. I would NOT recommend trying to work with that material as Beryllium produces an extremely toxic inhalation hazard when machined or filed. Even small quantities of Beryllium can cause permanent lung damage and lung tissue scaring along with pneumonia like symptoms.
