Accord to the User manualI'm a bit unclear about grid connection from reading the manual. For the breaker in the main panel, feeding to the grid connection, the spec sheet says the 8k unit can peak output at 38.3A (8ga req'd) but can draw 50 amps (6 ga req'd) and the manual says to make this connection with 10awg wire. Should I run 6awg from the main panel to the grid input, and what size breaker in the main panel? The manual is more clear about the output, use a 40A breaker (with 8ga). Thanks!
Nominal AC Current Out to Grid = 34.8A, 34.8A*240V = 8.35KW ~ 10AWG
Max AC Current Output to Grid = 38.3A, 38.3A*240V = 9.2KW ~ 8AWG
Max AC Current from Grid = 50.0A, 50.0A*240V = 12.0KW ~ 6AWG (Inverter MAX Surge for 10 seconds)
As for me personally, I wire the AC GRID to Main panel with 6AWG just to ensure if there's a local usage surge, the wires are able to handle load up to 50A within NEC code with 6 AWG. It will cost slightly more, I rather be safe than to be sorry. That's just me. At the end of the day, depends on what your max load from all of your house circuits.
