I have been experimenting with this project for 2 weeks now.. I started with 24v dc heating element off my battery bank, but found I was using much to much power from my bank....So then I tried using a 120v ac element 2000w element with my solar array 250w x6 panels, 3 in series x2 in parallel . 90-100v at 1500w I was able to get about 135deg water but had a problem because of the thermostat not liking the dc arcing . Now I am looking for a high voltage DC relay that won't get so hot. I have tried a couple that say rated at 220vdc 40 amp but when it runs for 15min I noticed the temp was getting hot....even up to 260deg ....wow. So I am looking for a high voltage relay that could put up with up to 250v dc continuous with out getting so hot with a control coil voltage of around 3 to 24v so I could run it through my thermostat ...any ideas where I can get one that will work....Thanks
