I have about 20W of load that I want to support from a DC:DC converter tied to a 5kWh/48V battery and charge with a single 400W panel installed on the roof of the house.

Struggling to figure out what to do for a charge controller and RSD; I know it would be easier at 12V, maybe with 200W panels, but I would prefer something that matches to the rest of the system I will eventually have.

Any recommendations for a product out there?

That would require some kind of boosting charge controller I think. I don't know if those exist for 48v.

It would be a lot easier if you could manage to get 2 400w in series so you can use like a Victron 100/20 48.

Victron MPPT 100/20-48v? It needs battery voltage plus 5v. So maybe not.
Build your own battery with 16 cells put in 8s2p configuration for 24v. When you build your larger system, you can chage it to 16s1p.

Maybe it's a Sunpower Maxeon panel?
