Unused energy disavantages

I have a self built solar array hooked to life ol batteries and don’t use it(for loss of power/emergency back up) what happens to the energy it creates if not in use? I have a victron mppt if that makes a difference. Should I disconnect if not in use? Thank you

Without load there is no generation.

Energy is not created, it is converted.

If there is no load, then the energy isn't converted, and the sunlight that hits does what it would have always done if it didn't hit a solar panel with load - light up the surface and heat it up.

It is not lost energy, it is lost potential. If the energy has no where to go it isn't made. But like time, once it passes it is gone forever.
