So I decided to try Linux and virtual machines again...last time and indeed every time I have tried various Linux in the past I have given up.
Installed Ubuntu on a machine and then Virtualbox 7.0.2.
Then downloaded the Home Assistant virtual machine, it came zipped and I unzipped it to get the VDI file.
Then try to import it, no go. Tried to create new machine and point it to the VDI...it cannot see it. It only wants an ISO file WTF..
Went to my windows machine and installed virtualbox. Tried the same steps but no dice, it also only want's an ISO file.
Fuck damn it, why is software so stupid ?

I do have Home Assistant installed on an other HD that works but I thought it would be better to have 1 machine doing multiple things gently for the whole house.

ISOs are the sources of OS installation images and VDIs are ready to run VMs. Google "import VDI into VirtualBox" and you'll find instructions for this.

VMs are retro now :) . The new hype is containers (for a decade now). But these are more complex for using than VMs.
