MPP LV6548 Build

I have read the manual cover to cover a few times! Lol, im definitely going to go through during install as well. Im also mount the controller/remote inside my trailer with the inverter in the generator storage compartment, so that will probably be my go-to for most stuff
I heard that Growatt and MPP are actually the same units with a different name amd cover. I found this link in the Growatt thread, and like DanF, it covers the settings fairly well. You may find it useful.

Hi Carlos,
My float is set at 53v (3.31v/cell). The last run I had the bulk charging set to 57.6 (3.6v/cell) and the back to grid set at 50v (3.125v/cell) and got a whopping 294ah!

Today I am trying another run and this time my bulk charge is set to 56 and back to grid is the same at 50.

That is odd that your charging stops before completing the charge. Check your "Back to discharge" voltage setting.

It is important to let the inverter charge your batteries to the top of whatever voltage setting you want to use. The setting you want is under "Back to discharge voltage" and use the FULL V setting. The batteries will charge to your bulk charge setting but the inverters will continue to run. Every once in a while they will show charging for a few seconds but the voltage will not change. (This is what initially threw me off) I couldn't figure out why the inverters were not going back to battery mode. Well, they weren't done sucking up the amps. Once this cycle is complete the inverters will transfer from grid to batteries.

Let me know if the settings work. I'll help as much as I can.
I absolutely love these inverters so far..

Dan
Thank you Dan!

I got a reply back from MPP Solar. They requested the parameter 12 to be set to 48v. I did so, and to my surprise, the battery charged correctly this time. It does not make too much sense to me, since parameter 12 is the back to grid voltage. Don't know how would this affect the charging profile, but it works.

Once the inverters go into float mode, they keep sending amps once in a while to replenish used power from the battery.

I am not completely offgrid, but I rarely use the grid. Just on those situations where my battery discharges too much.

I am going to keep this setting for a week and monitor the system.

Thanks again!

Carlos

I have some interesting readings goin on now as well. My Lower/Upper range settings are at a conservative 50/56v and have been for the past couple of charge/discharge cycles. Check out these AH readings (The lower AH's were the first after making changes, the higher one is the last run).
Now I'm going to have to run another cycle. This is unreal actually o_O. I'll keep ya posted!

Wow. How can that be the case with such a conservative charge discharge cycle? What are your BMS settings for top amd bottom?

It's not really a BMS per se. It's a battery cell equalizer and there is no low self shut off circuit. But my setting is .05 millivolts for it to do any balancing.
The balancing only occurs when it gets down towards the low end of discharge and this happens on and off not constant.

Captain, I think the dilithium crystals are about to blow!! ?

I'm worried that since I did not smash my batteries together with rods that they may have some expansion which is allowing for more capacity. I keep checking but the electrons are not leaking out yet. (I'm kidding)?

Funny how Scotty is now such a part of our culture. Love it. That makes sense now. I had thought you were using th3 Heltec BMS, but i guess its just their balancer. I have their 5amp balancer also, but I want to see how the 2amp active balancer works on their 200amp BMS first. The cells are taking forever to get here!

The 2A Heltec balancer can do any balancing task. It just takes a long time the first time.
I'm patient.
The 5A might add an Ah or 2 if you want to cycle in to the knee.

edit: I have EVE 280Ah 48V. I guess some people have cells that are so out of whack that they need more than 2A.

Ok. I just ordered my Solar panels, Finally the weather is breaking in Ohio! So, I went with 12-REC Alpha Black REC365AA 365w Mono Solar Panels. I bought them through Solaris and paid (Shipped with liftgate delivery out the door) $3,481.49 USD. Next is racking and finding someone to mount the panels on the roof. Slow, but surely moving forward.

This comes out to .79/Watt. Probably been the most researched part of my build other than where to buy my batteries... lol. I wanted a good price on Black on black mono cells. So, we'll see how they work our and I'll keep you guys updated on here and on YT as time allows... I know I've been falling a bit behind on updates, but there is a lot of juggling going on here at the homestead lately. Sorry for that, but I'll try to get another vid out on settings of the LV6548 in the next week..

Hey! I ordered my panels a couple days ago too! Mine are on hold for a week due to inventory coming in, so we'll see. I got 24x 250watt panels and putting 12x on each pv input. Can't wait to see more from you.

Hey Dan, take a look at the IronRidge XR Rail system, excellent engineering and a bonded grounding system. I just DIY installed the rail system and 36 Mission Solar 350w panels. It was my Covid "vacation" project! I did finally get my 15 yr old son to help me set & wire panels on the 2-story roof. If you have some time it's not that tough to do, a ton of info on YouTube/Internet. Here in N. Calif, I searched a 100 mile radius and all the installers were 3-4 months booked out! Photos also show my Enphase micro inverters with 1/2in EMT and metal junction boxes. https://www.ironridge.com/pitched-roofs/

IronRidge even comes in black to match your panels.... https://www.thepowerstore.com/iron-ridge-ironridge-xr-100-anodized-rail-17ft-black.html

WOW, that's some serious solar power! I will take a look at the iron-ridge. Thanks for the info! You are moving right along there and it looks awesome :giggle:

Dan - What's the name of your YouTube channel? I'm having trouble finding it. Thanks.

I second the XR100 system. It is easy as pie to install. The hardware bites into the panels and all of the rails bond together, so you can basically ground the whole system as one piece. Driving home with 17' rails sticking out of my truck was interesting though :p
