Little update, so far the BYD BMS temperatures and voltages have been sorted out, however it doesn't seem to balance under its own directives. I am continuing to crack at it. If anybody knows HCS08 or CANBUS I'd love to get some others involved. I have downloaded the ROM image off the BMS...
I have been heating electrically pretty well for a while... but we have these 4-5 day long storms here in the winter very often and that makes energy storage tedious as it is. I have about 30kw of lipo cells that a friend is discharge/charge testing before I install them (alibaba purchase, check...
I have already ordered from Midwest Steel Supply, but got an email about a 14 day backlog. They are cutting everything to the length I need before sending. McMaster was going to cost about 30% more and I would've been cutting them myself.
I have two 80a epever controllers, one of which has been running like a clock for more than a year. Turning the bad into good here, maybe we need a sticky on how to disconnect/connect them safely without damage...? Ive had to disconnect and reconnect mine several times over wiring revisions but...
I have been relying on a 3500w Edecoa inverter off Amazon for about a year and a half now. No issues to report. Has a fan roar that can wake the dead, and will drop to ~60% efficiency when pushed hard but does not have voltage drop issues.
Lowes is running a really hot sale on eccotemp so Im going to get the i12, hook it to a 20lb bottle and hope when the new cells are hooked in that I only need it to turn on a few times a year.
Edit: just remembered I got a family member that works for rheem I need to see what the family price is
Do this across all the cell groups. Connect all your - together, then all your 1+\-2 bars together, then all the 2+\3-... all the way up to all the positive terminals.
Be super careful... or your ring lug will turn into a spade.
Edit: i had occasional connection issues, lock washers are suggested.
Probably quite easily but I just moved mine where it could sing unnoticed. Ive been building out my off grid cabin and have used it non stop exc for some downtime days. Rats chewed my fridge wires, it didnt mind. Have overloaded it with a 2kw water heater and my coffee kettle... fans sang...
Spoke to an EE doctorate and he advised I derate the contactor and sent me a chart. At lower DC voltages it said derate by .5-1 (half to none) hence the 80A contactor... which is twice the current passing through and using two of the poles to connect the battery instead of 1. The new dpdt relays...
Reorganizing upstairs in my 400sq ft barn-house. Planning to loft my bed and have a closet underneath, so have been rearranging everything. Also just got my newest cells, 302ah grade "A" (but really B at best) built into a pack (8s4p). Very happy with the outcome! Still have to wire the tired...
Just got this Analog Devices DC2100B-C balancer hot off the brown truck today, after reading the manufacturers claims of 4 amp bi-directional balancing, 100% discharge capability and feeling like I'm reading what could be a miracle for my 5.6kwh BYD packs which have been self-balancing like a...
Thank you! Has been an ongoing project.
As for the rest of the crew,
250A SouthROL BMS (Daly clone)
2x Epever 8420AN MPPT controllers - 2kw and 2.5kw arrays @250w-2s4p and 2s5p
3500w/7k surge Edecoa inverter
There are actually plenty of inefficient 12 and 24v systems, they are made for sleeper trucks and heavy equipment.
also very simple your unit draws 900w max at 18.75a @ 48v. 24v would be twice that at 37.5A. Within capabilities of 8 gauge wire.
I'm very surprised at the efficiency of...
Is heating an issue or are we just dreaming about air conditioning in this post? I just retired two Midea U (8K + 12K) in my tiny house in favor of a lesser efficiency mini-split heat pump. A worthy sacrifice as I had plenty of power in the summer, but was left to chopping wood all winter for...
Here is the link to the ones I purchased
Grade A+ lithium iron phosphate battery cells 3.2V 310ah lifepo4 battery for Electric Power Systems
https://m.alibaba.com/product/1600215997258/Grade-A-lithium-iron-phosphate-battery.html
Edit: It looks like they have changed to 310ah where I ordered...
I tried one out, and was not pleased with it.
The good: it will program all your controllers in one shot via usb
The bad: the mt-50 display becomes useless
Mine had a strange error once and reset one of my controllers to a weird ID I didnt ask for... but by inquiring the channel via direct usb...
Has been roughly a year with the Eccotemp. Havent even gone through a 20lb tank yet. My only real gripe is that it does not seem to care if hot water is coming in so I have to manually turn it on and off as needed. I thought a unit with digital controls and a screen would be smarter.
I know I am late to the game here but I wanted to share since I actually do this.
A little background: I have 3kw of panels, 80a charge controller, 3500/7k 120v inverter, and 5 used 5.63kw BYD packs in my off grid setup.I have paralleled an existing 50 gallon hot water heater's elements...
Any further updates? I'm itching to pull the trigger on one of these for my solar tiny house.
I've been using both a Midea U inverter unit (8k btu) and a very normie non inverter Frigidaire 8k to manage my 400sq ft space during harsh summers. I need to free up my inverter for other tasks and I...
I am looking for bus bars so yes there is some plumbing strap used here for now. Ive run my maximum current through it as it is now and checked for temp rise, barely noticeable. Never intended it to be permanent I just ran out of bus bars while my power was down. There are actually 3 pieces...
Yes the hard start kit increases the starting amps but I would argue that energy comes from the capacitor. I installed one in a 2.5ton home unit and dropped the start up peak from the line by around 25%.
Hello group...
I am working on getting the original BYD BMS installed in the 5.63kwh battery modules working. I have retrieved messages and am communicating with another user. I accidentally killed one probing for voltages. Does anyone have one or more they've pulled out they would be willing...
Still awaiting a reply from South LAN store about the default setting but 1mR seems the magic number. It closely matches the clamp meter.
Also, saw it balance for the first time today. Maybe this BMS isnt a lemon after-all.
I was a little concerned about being off topic posting this in the tiny home subsection but completely overlooked the offgrid living advice subsection.
Greetings
In the latest of my endeavors to stabilize my off-grid power situation, I went in big to replace the 5 (very used) BYD packs. So Aug 19, I ordered 52 3.2v 302ah LiFePO4 packs from EEL in China. I was told I would receive Grade A cells that would test at minumum 295ah each. Here we are...
