Just like I did on the overkill esp32 thread, I'm going to document the progress here.
Today, Sungold sent me the rs-485 spec for inverter/bms communication. It's attached
My goals with this project are just to make a better dashboard which integrates with my existing esp32/blynk/node-red...
That's a good idea. I had considered it. The blocker is that the hotspot doesn't have a switch that I can do that with and it has an internal battery. It has a momentary push button to turn it on and it's a 5 second push to turn it off. it's one of these...
The bms disapative balancing has apparently helped out. The data graph I have shows that the goofy cells are less goofy and are not drifting so far. ....I don't know why that makes any sense since it does seem like an cell capacity issue as @Ampster pointed out ?.
I am going to raise the...
Oooook... So, this morning finds that there are now +250a spikes. One at 3am and one at 7:30am. Battery one soc is showing 21% whereas battery 2 is at 82%
I'm not clear on what you mean by "up pack".
I will check voltage before the bms, at the bank terminals and measure the cells and check the connections. It would be baffling if there was a loose connection anywhere.
Sort of off topic but did you have any issues with this one cutting output and sounding it's alarm when input voltage drops below 48v even slightly?
...asking because I have the 48v 3k xyz unit and it does that.
I know you said flawlessly - just checking.
gotcha. yeah, this whole system will probably need a wifi range extender to get internet to all the sensors involved. I'm going to end up monitoring water tank level for two 2600g tanks, vermiculture toilet conditions and triggering water flow from air conditioner condensate line into the...
Not arguing, just stating my own qualifications in order to meet the needs of this system. That is, redundancy.
This is redundant:
1. I must be able to service the thing with out taking the system off-line. "hot-swappable" batteries, in this case.
2. If the thing stops functioning for...
[UPDATE]
I received the logic level converters from amazon and built two boards up for testing. Neither work properly. These are the converters that I'm using. I've attached a photo of one of them all wired up.
Looks like the bms is responding now. However, the bms.cpp lib is reporting...
I'm thinking of using another esp32 to power cycle my inverter in the event of it hitting low voltage cut off AND AFTER a reasonable return voltage has been reached. The property is remote and I'm not always there so having something like this would be really nice. ...Basically a device that...
Mine has a low v cut-off. At this moment, I don't recall what it is. It's not user programmable.
Regarding your comment:
I don't understand what the ramifications of that would be. The charge controller stops charging when the bms does the issue that this thread started with. That is...
Sungold hybrid 240 split phase 6wk. It's the exact same as the lvx6048 that mpp and the others sell. Maybe a more expensive scc would ramp down, but this one doesn't. It just faults with code 8. According to sungold support, it's caused by voltage spike on battery.
The BMS "shouldn't" do...
I think you may be onto something...
The esp code is covered in this thread: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/anyone-working-with-the-overkill-solar-arduino-lib.27811/page-3
...that particular post has the JBD protocol spec sheet in it.
Anyhow, I have the esp device pulled off, the BT...
[UPDATE]
I'm concluding that this is a voltage diff issue between the uarts and I am purchasing some line level / logic level converters to experiment with. For example...
I get the clicking too but it's not that frequent. I got one line failure alarm 3 days ago and not since then. I've turned the generator on and off several times since then. I emailed them about it asking what might have triggered it. The alarm still says "unprocessed" ...not sure what...
I didn't time it. But, last time I used it on battery, I think it was about 4 hours with active use. I'll keep that in mind
[EDIT] I think the issue would then become turning it back on. It needs a momentary button push
My array produced about 4kw in good sun. It got to about 80% charge yesterday and then stopped at about 54.1v. Then nothing but draw on the batteries with 3ish hours of sun left. I emailed the company and they're asking for more troubleshooting info
So much good information. I just realized another fundamental mistake. ...this one made by the contractor.
He ran 10/2 not 10/3. I have black, white, ground
I'm seeing what I think is inconsistent behavior from my Overkill Solar 48v 16s bms. However, it's likely working as it should and the problem is me and something I've done. Anyhow, when one cell hits the low voltage cut off, the bms appears to completely disconnect from the charge...
