FYI .. I did an off grid weekend with my used San Tan solar panels DThames is right on as far as efficiency. The best I did was 83% at solar noon. But for watt per dollar they still rock .. IMHO
We are camping pro's. I lived in a one man tent for 2 weeks touring Austria and Hungary on a bike. I've also spent 10 days roughing it in Africa. My wife loves it and it is her dream to camp more. We have rented but the price they are getting for the rentals now requires us to buy. Thank you...
You can use stainless set screws. As the above poster said the studs will be carrying almost none of the current the face to face contact of the lugs to the terminal faces will be doing all of the work. the studs just hold it together.
It looks like a dedicated shunt is in my future :) . The primary reason for my original post was to to find if there was a setting or a refresh button in the Xiaoxiang software to fix the glitch. The more I dig into it the feel I just need to ignore the SOC in the Xiaoxiang software. I have the...
I send them an email. This was the reply :
"These are Grade A CALB cells. We will be shipping them from Chicago. We will ship tomorrow if you order today.
Otherwise on Monday . We will do UPS ground shipping."
My brother and I installed 8 panels on his Cabin in the UP. In another thread someone suggested this system. I wish I could find the thread so I could credit them.
It's not cheap but it worked PERFECT for the 8)- 65" by 39" panels we installed...
Thank you all for the input. As you have all pointed out I never really factored the cold weather performance of the panels. It's for a boondocking setup and even in Georgia we get below 32 now and then. Thanks .. K
Thank you .. I was clearly overthinking this and added a level of confusion that should not have existed. It now makes perfect sense. Your wording removed all doubt. 100% of the time I would be charging by cord it would be without load. Problem solved.
I found that I was able to use the USB box that I used with my Overkill solar BMS and connect my laptop to the new BMS . I'll just do that from here on out. Thank you all for your time.
Thank you for the input .. Yep SOC on the software is just a best guess. I did a little more digging and found other people were getting odd readings too. I ran my camper off of it for 12 hours and it works fine. I'm just going to ignore it.
I was just there for 2 weeks, In Limpopo, the ranch I was at is thinking of going solar also. I saw stunned to hear the you still have to pay a electric bill even if you are off grid. I also hear your power price is going up 60+% Yikes
This should be a sticky some place . Simple, math worked out .. Bam! done :) . It's been mentioned before but I would HIGHLY recommend making leads for the top balancing and not use clamps of any sort. I attached mine alligator clips while making leads up, once I added my larger power supply...
I was directed to this by someone on facebook. Posting this sort of stuff on Facebook is so frustrating people who don't read the post start commenting on it and have no clue what they are blathering about...
Hmmmm not sure how you would construe my statement of " But for watt per dollar they still rock" as complaining ???? Just stating the DThames's statement bore true with me.
I never found a way .. I disconnected the blue-tooth module and connected mine with a UART box by running jumpers. I later on ordered plug ends to make the connections easier. Here is my thread on the problem...
