Believe me, I'd LOVE to. But gotta pay for the sol-ark first. I've already gone over budget
  • Post in thread: LV6548 utility connection question.

So I will be using the electric companies grounding system on my entire system. I was hoping to use my own earth ground, and only use the electric companies load lines and neutral. So the only way to get around this is not to have utility hooked up to the inverters for back up?
  • Post in thread: dies for 8 awg wire?

Hadn't thought of looking there. I don't have Facebook but my wife does. I went and checked it out briefly and it's definitely worth looking through.
  • Post in thread: I think my MPP LV2424 may be defective - Help needed

I too am new to solar. I have found my batteries may not do what I expected as well. I have two 200AH LiFePo4 in series. I got alot of bugs ironed out on my LV2424 yesterday. I still need to tweek the settings. I'm sorry you're giving up on solar, I have come to realize it's an expensive...
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

Just checked the 6548 and sure enough, the setting was 2P2, so went in and changed it to SG1 and it started charging the batteries off utility and showed the inverter icon so know it's functioning in that aspect. Turned on the switch from the PV and nothing. That will definitely be this...
  • Post in thread: Anyone had trouble with 12v battery at Positive end draining?

Thank you both. Will charge individually and then in series and check the cuttoff setting and change it. This was my first system, and it's for the koipond power. I have 12-200 watt Rich Solar panels and my power consumption runs about 800 watts except at night when the waterfall shuts down...
  • Post in thread: I think my MPP LV2424 may be defective - Help needed

Also, the ones pulling the strings keep talking about the electric grid going down. The system I have I can easily move my wires to send power to the house and shut off the utility breakers to power necessities like frig., fans, crock pot; would need to shut down some of the pond equipment though.
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

I had this 6548 hooked up before and it worked (with communication issues), and double checked the wiring before putting the front panel with controller back on. I did precharge, don't have a regular resistor so I use a carpenters pencil as a resistor. Thank you for the link to the calculator...

Thank you, will check the website and if still in doubt call Rich Solar.
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

Sun is out today and checked the leads from PV. Was getting 112v from the PV which are 2 strings of 5 panel series in parallel. I have tried both MPPT connectors on the 6548 and the inverter does not detect the panels. The only thing I can figure is there must be something in the settings...
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

Thank you!!! I had COMPLETELY forgotten about the setting #28 for two phase. Will get that changed this weekend, as that's the soonest opportunity I'll have to tackle it again. I remember the frustration setting it up as I was slow at making the chages. I had also forgotten about the bonding.
  • Post in thread: dies for 8 awg wire?

I will be installing my solar array 150' from the inverter and decided to go with 8awg wire, when looking for connectors to fit, it has turned out to be challenging. I purchased this crimper with dies for regular 10 and 12 awg connectors...
  • Post in thread: length of cable and fusing

I think I understand now. So you are talking about equal length of cable in terms of each inverter, ie, total of inverter #1 is the same as total cable length of inverter #2. Am I correct? Also, thank you for the link to the book, this gives me some good info to read and understand more...
  • Post in thread: length of cable and fusing

Here’s a crude sketch of what I’m looking at. I have the 3’ battery cables (2/O) going from the bus bar to inverters and the fuses. I need to purchase cable to go from the bus bar to the fuse box now. I see 9” is a standard length to purchase so this would be adding another 11” to the positive...
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

Greetings. I had an LV2424 I was using on my koipond with 4 12v Rich Solar batteries configured for 24v and 10 200watt Rich Solar panels hooked up 5panels in string, 2 strings. This setup worked fine for the LV2424, but the 2424 stopped switching over to utility, and it would just drain the...

  • Post in thread: Solar Panel Configuration and Solar Panel Combiner box

Thank you for your response. For the AC going out from the two LV6548s will just use a small two leg breaker box then before the lines head to the main panel in the house. My PV lines coming in will be connected to a DC disconnect switch before the inverters so I should be good. No codes here...
  • Post in thread: Anyone have experience with Rich Solar hybrid Inverters?

I bought an MPP Solar LV2424 and it's had issues from day one. Looking for a more reliable inverter that I want to be off-grid for the most part. Currently I have 10-200watt Rich Solar PV panels, 4- 12v 200AH Rich Solar LiFePO4 batteries and my load is my koipond pulling 565 watts with an...
  • Post in thread: Help please with my LV6548 not functioning properly.

Thank you for responding. The inverter panel does not show panels are connected, so it shows 0 volts from PV. Good to know I can run all 10 in series and not mess anything up. Have not been happy with this system, ie MPP solar and rich solar products.
  • Post in thread: Solar Panel Configuration and Solar Panel Combiner box

I have a question. In response #5 from MichaelK he talks about a breaker box after the inverter and that his line goes straight to his main panel. What are the main reasons for having a breaker box right after the inverter since it’s going to the houses main breaker panel, and will an average...

I have most of my supplies and planning my install of two LV6548 inverters to power my house. But am a bit confused on the grounding line coming from utility. For utility power IN on the two 6548s, do I use the utility ground, or my own earth ground I will be using on the AC power OUT to my...
  • Post in thread: dies for 8 awg wire?

Around 240 volts I'm figuring. It all depends on what panels I can buy come Monday. Going down to OK City to purchase and bring back. Had figured on the Silfab 380, but later when I called to see what other items they carried, they'd run out of the S 380s so figured I'd wait till closer to...

  • Post in thread: Question for LV6548 owners

I have an LV6548 and planning an install, but am having a terrible time figuring my PV array to stay below 250VOC and 18A per MPPT. What panels are you running and what is your configuration? I am having trouble keeping the amps below 18 with my configurations and the watts high. I would...
  • Post in thread: I think my MPP LV2424 may be defective - Help needed

I was pulling right at 550 watts, unplugged from utility and forced the inverter to use the batteries, it ran for 10-11 hours, then the batteries were drained to the point I had to charge each one up so I could power the LV2424 back on. It was part of my learning process. I really expected...
  • Post in thread: dies for 8 awg wire?

Being 150' distance from array to inverter, pulling the PV wire bundle (two runs, so 4 wires) will be difficult enough without the ends on and I would think impossible with ends. Direct burial would save money as PVC conduit has become unreal as all PVC products have, but hesitant to go that...

Found this informative article, note the table addressing what can be done with a two MPPT inverter, although not MPP Solar specific, I would say this article addresses all two MPPT input inverters. https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2014/02/dual-mppt-defined-understanding-mppt/

  • Post in thread: Over paneling an LV2424

Thank you. I'll stick to the AiO inverters. The 2424 is currently online with upgrades to increase the panels as discussed, and adding two more LiFeSO4 batteries. The LV6548 still in the box waiting to be hooked up, but need the panels and the batteries, rack, etc. Hoping to make this...
  • Post in thread: Over paneling an LV2424

Thanks for your response. Will do the 4s3P as you suggest. The AC I thought was 950 watts but when I look now I find 1150 watts. My pump pit is pulling 535 watts 24/7. I can shut down the waterfall pump at night if I have to. The freezer pulls 3.3 KWh a day.
  • Post in thread: Anyone with experience with the Watts247 combiner box question.

Thank you for responding. I have a dumb question though, where does the 18A limit come in? I read that on the MPPTs of the 6548 each have a 60A limit. Is the 18 amp limit on the combiner box, and if so can a larger fuse be used safely?
  • Post in thread: Question for LV6548 owners

Thank you timselectric, that is a relief and opens up more options for sure. The specs on the silfab is fantastic, but haven't seen them run over their panels with a tractor like Mission solar has and we get hail here in the spring, usually nickel to quarter size.

  • Post in thread: Question for LV6548 owners

Thank you for responding all. Timselectric, I too would like to overpanel as it seems with the current LV2424 I'm running for my koi pond set up with 10-200 watt I have yet to hit the 2000 watts they are supposed to put out so figure the new set up will no doubt fall short on power production...

Hello all. New to solar, started off with a solar kit which I assembled per their diagram but was never happy with it. It was an MPP Solar LV2424, 10-200 watt panels in two strings of 5 paralleled, two LiFePO4 batteries. It would revert to utility, usually on hot days but not always. So decided...
  • Post in thread: New Sol-Ark 15K and SOK rack of batteries.

Had two MPPT 6548 solar inverters which I am replacing with a Sol-Ark 15K, while skimming through the manual it states if you are hooking up more than 2-3 batteries, they must be run through a busbar before the inverter. The SOK rack has 5 SOK batteries (no busbar) and just have them hooked up...

  • Post in thread: Requesting advice on LV6548 array.

This has been a learning experience for sure. Figure I'll buy 4 more of the RS panels which will give me enough to have two strings of 8 run in parallel for one of the MPPT inputs. Will get me close to max watts on one input allowing for winter cold temperatures and 20.8 amps, well below the...

  • Post in thread: dies for 8 awg wire?

Thank you. Seems 10 AWG is going to be the size I use, 8 is just turning out to be too much trouble and I've already bought a good set of crimpers that I can change dies, just can't seem to locate the size 8 for it.
  • Post in thread: Over paneling an LV2424

I'm confused on figuring the amps. You take watts and divide by volts, correct? Is this total watts of the array divided by one strings volts? This would make the amperage 24.6 by my figures. (2400/97.2) Just trying to get a handle on this before moving onto the 6548. The midnite solar...

  • Post in thread: Requesting advice on LV6548 array.

On the 2424, it would drain the battery and go to utility, not using the panels for power or charge, sometimes air temp over 100*F, other days only 80*F. Sometimes I'd find it using utility, showing 107 v from panels, but not drawing any power from the panels, just from utility. As for my...

  • Post in thread: Over paneling an LV2424

So by what I've read on this forum, one can over panel the inverter and the MPP Solar inverters will only take what they can handle from the panels in terms of watts as long as one stays below the amps and volts. My plan is to string together 12 Rich Solar 200 watt into two series of 6 in...
