The main question is since I am on NEM2 and EV2A home charging rate plan, should I use my inverter and 30KhW of battery storage to load shave, self supply during PEAK times and use PV + Grid to charge battery back. This is essentially what I did during the summer months and it seems like I have an excess of Peak KwH credits. In the winter, most of the consumption is non-peak anyways. Also, there is probably a 20% efficiency hit from discharging and charging battery so would I be better off exporting more KwH to the grid instead?

I'm at a loss on how to analyze this fully. Here is my one year true-up bill.

Initial reaction: You only owed them $40.72 for the whole year. That's excellent, keep doing what you are doing and don't over think it.

As far as exporting more to the grid vs. charging batteries. Yes, you could do that and try to eliminate the 626kWh of Net usage but how much effort is it worth since the end result was only a $41 charge.

Once the Net 0 threshold is crossed excess energy is sent back to the utility you can get actual $$ credits added to your annual bill that will off set minimum delivery charges for the following year. That said, they only pay Wholesale rates for excess production, its pathetic, like 3 cents.

You are probably better off continuing with self consumption.

You are probably right. The only reason why I'm thinking about this is because this year, I'm using the heat pump mini splits so much more (all these cold nights) and in Feb, my net usage is probably ~400KwH vs 13KwH surplus compared to last year. I also got a new HPWH which is drawing on average 2.4KwH per day so I think I'm in a bigger hole next year.
