Victron MPPT 10 year warranty

I noticed Victron MPPT Smart solar chargers come with a standard 5 year warranty, but for an additional 10% you can extend the warranty to 10 years. Has anyone purchased or used the Victron warranty? Any feedback? I am trying to decide between an all in one MPP (1 year warranty), Growatt (2 year), or use mostly Victron (5-10 years) components. I know the pros and cons of all in ones versus components, but I am thinking about longer term reliability and warranties. My setup will be a converted camping trailer mostly boondocking. A lot of dirt roads and bouncing.

My take: the fact that Victron/dealer(?) offers an extended warranty likely means they believe they can offer that without too much risk. I personally would not pay for an extension and just role the dice. But if you want more 'certainty'?

Hi there. This is the only thread about Victron warranty. All my solar components are Victron, I had a problem with the GX Touch 50 ( brand new) . I emailed the Victron/Dealer who sold me all the components without response I called them same thing. I email today the representative for North America, let see what happens after this. Do you know anybody having problem trying to use the warranty? Thanks for your help

I haven't had to warranty any of my Victron gear. When I bought my inverter I went with an actual dealer, not Amazon or some other no-name brand. The dealers that know the equipment are going to be there to help you figure out problems and actually warrant the product. Sometimes Victron equipment makes it onto the market through channels that aren't authorized dealers.

Who was the dealer?

I just bought an Open Box Victron MPPT100 30 on ebay.

I just got it. It looks brand new in its packaging. I need to test it.
But meanwhile, I wonder if any warranty might apply or be extended, just in case it fails..

I am thinking that their warranty probably only extends to original owners.
Their general warranty doesn't say otherwise. It doesn't say much at all.
I am muddling with the idea of asking them about it though. Its just acedemic. Pedantic.

I have bought other Open Box items with warranties granting to me, a second hand buyer. I think it was EVGA that redeemed warranty an expensive GTX 1070 FTW high end gamers video board I had bought on ebay. I think it was ASUS that replaced a bad motherboard I bought on ebay. I bought a pair of used, Vintage Steiner 10x50 binoculars I had bought on a ShopGoodWill online auction that were out of kilter. They were technically not under the current Steiner Life Time Warranty because up until 30 years ago when the company changed hands , it was a 25 year warranty or something, before the lifetime warranty had been established by new management. So technically my binoculars was under that 25 year warranty some 40 years ago. It is out of warranty. They have a fee schedule for sending them in for evaluation and repair estimate.

Because I asked, they very generously offered to wave that fee. So I sent them in.

To my delight they returned them to me, free of charge. They registered it to me.

They had dissasembled it, gave it a good cleaning, replaced some lost lens mounting shill that cause things to be out of kilter, and tuned its focus... all as a courtesy. FREE. ... and also offered me a 40% discount if I wanted to buy a new pair. Steiner. Kudos. In my dialogs with their Service dude, it is at their discretion. They are not in the business of becoming a free repair service to people that trade in used goods. That is a real hazard of generous support.

Victron, like Steiner, like Gibson, like Remington, all strong brands in intensively competitive niche markets. Companies like these almost always offer Its courtesy to the public as a way to build their branding.

So, I am unabashedly trolling to find out what Victron's policy is on secondary market purchases.. Otherwise I need to get on with testing my new Open Box Victron MPPT100 30 that I just received.

Oh, the Pressure ...:fp2

I love victron gear but they expect you to purchase through a dealer who also handles warranty.

For a tad more money it's probably worth purchasing through places like inverter supply and current connected.

I never understood why these companies get so strict on warranties. If the unit has a serial number, they can trace it, they know its theirs (not some knockoff) and they know how old it is. Who cares if you aren't the original purchaser.
It only de-values your equipment. Imagine buying a new truck but deciding to sell it a year later and the warranty is void... nobody is going to want that thing.

From their general warranty language, I think the upshot is:

"As determined from the date of purchase by the end user, with a maximum of 66 months from theVictron Energy invoice date.

During this period, Victron Energy will,
at its option, repair or replace the defectuous product free ofcharge. This warranty will be considered void if the unit has suffered any physical damage or alteration, either internally or externally, and does not cover damages arising from improper use ...

There you have it. ... "at its option" ...
It looks like my instinct is right. I don't see any language here that says anything exclusive in its warranty to original owner only. At its discretion is simply their way of saying that they are not a free service for sellers on ebay or whatnot.

Just like Steiner, or ASUS, or any other highly branded niche product manufacturer in a highly brand competitive market.

You just have to ask.

Also, this might help (from a Reddit thread):

Look up your serial number on the victron website:

https://www.victronenergy.com/support

Then it will show you who the product was purchased through and that is who you go to for support and claims.

Note:
I have just put in a service request to ask if my Victron MPPT 100 30 is under warranty. They have forwarded my request, based upon serial number, to the original dealer. Let's see what they say.

We have been sent this support request as we are a direct distributor for Victron. Thank you for reaching out about this. To answer your question, yes! The warranty follows the unit itself so long as the HQ number is still intact on the MPPT. It will be under warranty for another couple years.

We hope this helps. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a good day,

So, a victron dealer that did not sell that unit will warranty it for a person that did not buy it new?

I retract my previous statement! Good job Victron.
