Will's new video on EVs (sorta)

Problem is half the stuff you mentioned is mandated by the government regardless of propulsion type (and is partly why cars cost so much these days). You cannot buy any new car without radars and cameras.
That's why I won't buy new cars, has to be old enough to not have that crap. I'm sure at some point down the road they'll try to make it illegal to own an older vehicle.

I'm traveling in the Bay area, CA, right now. There are tesla model 3s everywhere. That being said, the people will get tired of their model 3 eventually. It will need an all day detail job, and new battery pack. The used car market in California will be filled with EVs in the future. At that time electricity will be more expensive. Everything evens out, but it will be cheaper to go electric and charge at home with expensive electricity than waste time at the pump with expensive petrol.

He doesn’t like PHEV because maintenance on the gas engine. But if battery is large enough, most trips could be on electric/battery power only. I like the specs on the new RAM Charger. Might look at buying a used one in a few years…

All the ones I've purchased have cell modems built into them as well for communicating back to the mothership.

Diesel trucks are still a nice investment around here. All of my bmw's are on a flat curve depreciating money wise.

I have a 2002 F250 7.3 diesel that is doubled in value vs what I paid for it. It has more loan value than most of my bmw's at the bank. So fossil fuel vehicles can be a good investment :)

Minivans? Not so much from a return on investment angle at least around here. I own a nice awd pacifica which is a nice vehicle but depreciated fast.

While i bought a 96 F350 for $9,000 back in 2014, and it is now worth $25-30k, Diesel Vehicle appreciation right now is a once in a lifetime experience, and should not be expected for it to continue or to happen again.

Those are just paper winnings unless you sell. :ROFLMAO:

I just want a simple GM small block V8 gas powered 1500. My old Chevy did everything I asked it to, and then some. I miss that truck.

Someday.

I want a little 4 cylinder 80's to 90's style Mazda/Nissan/Toyota truck with a 6' to 8' bed and a front bench seat with no rear seating.

I don't think it's gonna happen.

Honestly, everything has doubled due to inflation in the last 10 years. If one uses this logic that means a diesel truck bought today is an even worse value than a mini van that has actually INCREASED in value for the purchaser because of the lower prices.

I had a 1982 Toyota 4 cyl diesel with bench seat 5 speed and 6ft bed as my first vehicle. 33mpg

NONE of that "stuff" is Mandated in any way.... That is ALL On the Vehicle Manufacturers and the Blingo-Tech they are including in a vehicle. Ironically, the cheaper EV's made in China (like BYD) do offer entry level EV's without all that Blingo-Tech as well as "loaded" vehicles with all sorts of techno-bling. In fact, many of the cheaper EV's still use manual buttons & switches for things like Heat/AC Defroster and the usual things we all need fast access to. A huge amount of people do not want to futz around with a screen while driving.

Small trucks were killed off and it makes me sad. These new 'rangers' are bigger than an older f150.

I don't buy cars for resale. I run them into the ground. Repair a bit more and sell for parts or barely driving. Get every last bit of value out of them.

Nice video. Love my hybrid (not phev). I get the acceleration, and higher mpg (regen braking) vs ice only. It was hard to justify the cost to get the phev version.

When prices drop more, I'm thinking there may be a market for the small battery cars for commute use (100 miles plus power for ac/heating). $15,000 with federal tax credit...

Hmmpf PMR rods and probably a 4r100... bet you have forskin installed on your phone as well ;) along with a PHP hydra with the quiet tune....

Nah just stage 3 swamps injectors, pump... 600hp dyno'd. The usual :)

Mine was done long before the hydra was out.

Ive got to get the caltracs installed on it since it twists the rear axle around making drive shaft hit the bed at the pinion. Refuse to do full ladder bars since it would kill ground clearance and I use it offroad too.

Still looks decent compared to the modern trucks in my opinion.

Granted some of the stuff isn't an absolute requirement yet, but it is coming. NHSTA has decided that everything must have it by 2029. The manufacturers had seen the writing on the wall.

Of course the reverse camera has been mandated for years, though that isn't a huge cost driver comparatively.

My old pickup was the only vehicle I have ever traded in. Every other car I've had was driven until it couldn't drive anymore. One was because of an accident (oops) but everything else I ran the wheels off almost literally. They all were succumbing to rust before mechanical failure though. Ohio salt does a number to frames and body panels.

In much of the US cars just don't last as long as the west coast. If I need something large for real hauling, I just rent a Uhaul for $25.
I bought a used cheap trailer in the Midwest to haul some stuff back to California. Pumped up the tires, made it less than 1 mile down the road before the rusted frame bolts snapped and then a few others pulled right threw the frame. Had one bolt on the main hitch rail front to back that was still holding, but it was swaying and running side to side in all the lanes. Luckily I wasn't going very fast, and pulled over into a parking lot. It was scary. I ratchet strapped and bungied it back together to return and the seller took it back. And ended up having a smaller but much better trailer in the end from him. I'll never buy older used vehicles or trailers in the mid west again, just too much rot.

Makes me wonder how the used electric car market will end up after years of harsh weather environment.
