Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

that one has everything.
Started new thread for it:

Now so many rack batteries are popping up. Check this one out:

Nice!

Only thing that worries me with those is the push on battery connection versus lugs, after that one guy had a near fire with his Apexium case with similar style.

I don't like them either. I read that thread. It was the crimp on the wire of the cable as I recall. Give me a nice bolt, flat washer, and a lock nut anytime.

Seems like most commercially sold server rack batteries are either Pace or JBD. They do the job. JK came out strong but not sure where they are at with new one. The new touch screen of the Overkill and JBD are nice. I haven't looked at the com protocol. I assume everybody does Victron or some major compatible type.

I bought the Vatrer off Amazon and was thinking I could add comm off the BMS. This will be a good battery to "play with" while the others keep the lights on

There's a bunch of protocols you can select via the screen (for the gokwh).

I was planning on using ESPHome to connect to it over Bluetooth, but haven't gotten around to it. Ping me if you figure out a solution!!

So why can't you buy the RS485 to usb adapter, put a bulkhead rj45 on front of the Vatrer rack mount battery and then instant communications?
I ordered the adapter today so I'll let you know.

I kinda grok that, but don't have headspace to go down that rabbit hole. If you're successful, please share! There's still the problem of getting it back to my server, which has a few walls in between my batteries... 🤔hmm...

Clarke, actually. And an '80's hacker. 😀
My bad . Thought Grok can from Stranger in a strange land..
Of course it’s has been 50 years since I read it.

I vaguely remember it being used in file list or tail.
Not really a programmer so can’t say for sure.

Battery arrive, I tested it briefly with 90 amps input then reduced it down to 5a for long slow charge. The rack mount rail was slightly bent from shipping but no big deal. It came with a new set of rails too.

First impression is 16C 100AH battery with display and Bluetooth with free shipping around $1k, what's not to love. I can see where you can disconnect the display and put RS485 com's on it. Not sure if you can do both.

I'll beat it up a little and see how it does

I charged it up on 5A 56.2V and it was unbalanced, not unexpected for new battery. I did see one cell go to 3.667 and then the OV kicked in. Other cell was -0.2V below it. I see the same thing on other rack mount but not this high. Caught it just as it happened the next morning (today). time to make some adjustments to the settings and a active balancer. Regardless of others opinions I have had great success with the Enerkey/Neey 4th generation Active Balancer. The rack mount manufactures mustn't top balance their batteries and leave it up to the end user to charge/discharge over the next 2 weeks to get it balanced if they are lucky. I am used to industrial systems that are built to tight parameters. this "wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff" crap is unacceptable.

Display kicks ass, love it.

Can you help translate what's dangerous? And what tool are you using? I wonder if you got a different rev than others - didn't someone post they had 2 and 1 was different dimensions??
The cell voltage should NEVER EVER go over 3.650 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3.65 x 16 = 58.4 V Battery Pac total. That is still high but anything over this is insane...

Use the overkill Solar app and you can select the 16 cell default. I typed in Off Grid Garage settings with a little tweeking. Quick fix but they must not have even programed the BMS when they put it together. No complaints now I reprogrammed it.

WARNING TO ALL WHO HAVE BOUGHT THIS BATTERY, CHECK BMS SETTINGS

This is the reason I like building my own packs…complete control. Although the price of these are very appealing, just need to watch out. Those default setting will definitely damage the battery and possibly your house.

So far my only complaint is the BMS settings. I liked it in the metal enclosure.

I wanted to build my own battery but unfortunately time is is an asset. I don't have a whole lot of these days. You can do it. More power to you buddy. Make one for me and mail it 🤟

The Overkill Solar app lets you save the settings so you can easily load them onto other batteries? So you only have to type them all in once if you have multiple batteries?

Overkill app has presets you can click on and write to bms. EZ, then I modified it.. Nice!
