One million gallons of coal ash wastewater spill at Minnesota Power plant

Can't get rid of coal, aren't Teslas charged by energy produced by coal fired power plants! 😉
Not typically.

Note that coal is now ranked 4th for energy production, at least here in the USA.

I thought California had so many Tesla's that the grid there had to be backed up by coal that was the news not so long ago not sure if it's still the case.

The news is better now for California's grid:

Is that from the water eroding the surface or flushing out when absorbing water? Fly ash really does have many positive aspects(lowering porosity being one)when used purely as an additive but I'm guessing many are using it as a bulking agent as a way to cheap out on Portland. If I could source it easily I'd be using in my own mix but the closest thing here would likely be ash from the making of charcoal, Minnesota is to far for me to go pick up a few bags.
They were trying to use the tailings from Picher, OK as a concrete additive for a while. 75% of American bullets in WW2 were made of Picher lead. The mine tailing were piled up in giant dunes across the area. Also, in classic Oklahoma style once the town was abandoned, they gave it back to the Quapaw tribe, as a final fuck you.

Then this coal ash spill must be just a tiny pimple in the Grand Scheme?
The fact it was spilled is pretty bad, but the waste is still being generated in massive quantities and for now held in containment. That problem is not going away.

I didn't say iron ore
I know.

What I was pointing out was the scale of consumption of coal (which by tonnage is more the triple iron ore mining) and the enormous scale of the toxic waste stream relative to mining of the metals you did mention, i.e. nickel and copper.

I'm not saying those are going to be baby seal saving ventures either, but relative to what they are helping us to eliminate (i.e. coal) they are tiny.

Doesn't seem to be any gas accounted for on this graph are they hiding it or have they shut down all the lng facilities also?
Natural gas is ~35% of electricity supply right now in summer. https://www.caiso.com/todays-outlook/supply
I don't think CA uses any LNG right now - they get pipeline NG from Texas/Midwest or indirectly from electricity imports.
