buy Bluetti AC50s for October delivery?

I did another test with my two panels. The sun today wasn't prefect but much better than last time. I measured the OCV of each panel and it was over 23V so I only connected the panels in parallel because series would have most likely thrown an over voltage error. The AC50s max charge rate is 122w. It held that charge rate until it got to the last bit of charging when it started to throttle the input which is normal. Each panel was producing about 85w under today's conditions so they were leaving 48w on the table.
You were able to connect two panels? So it'll only give you an error (and stop charging) if you're over voltage or over current, but not over power (122w vs your 85x2)?

I didn't get an error because I didn't connect the panels in series. I measured the OCV of each panel and it was over 23v so I would most likely have gotten an over voltage error in series (46v). I just connected them in parallel. Like I mentioned before, you only have to worry about voltage limit. It will only give you an error if you go over the 40v. The AC50s will use the max wattage it needs and throttle the amps. This is why I mentioned that you won't have a problem with a parallel connection.

With today's condition, my panels were feeding the AC50s 170w so it was using its max of 122w, 48w were wasted/unused.

Okay just wanted to make sure I understood. For some reason I thought I'd get over current error with parallel. That's really awesome.

The manual and the website appear to say different things, or I am misinterpreting?

Website says: Solar Panel Input:10A(Max)14V~40V/Max.120W Max.10A.MC4 Connector

Manual says input voltage 12-40, input power 120w max. (nothing about amps here).

So what you're suggesting is maybe the website is wrong otherwise it wouldn't say 10A max, if it has the ability to throttle amps?

Anyway I'm mostly just excited because I didn't know they could be connected in // so thanks!

The AC200 more specifically says "only 12A will be received when the current exceeds 12A." So I wonder if that's how the AC50S also operates, except with 10A. Or could the amps be more as long as it's under 120w?

For your panels you'd just need parallel adapters like these.

For the panels that I'm using, these might work but I haven't tested them

Do you think if I have this, but I'm only using two of the three branches, that's bad? Would I be compromising the waterproof part of it?

Using two of the branches is fine but I wouldn't leave it out in the rain. Perhaps you could tape or cover the third one somehow for water resistance.

Any idea why some of the parallel connectors have cords on them vs ones that don't? Any advantage/disadvantage to them? That is what this is right? Same thing as the one in the post above, just a different form factor?

Yes, they perform the same function but with a different form factor as you say.

The hobotech review of the AC50S just came out and I understand now why I didn't get an over voltage error when I wired my panels in series. The AC50S can take up to 45v which is good enough for some panels in series depending on weather conditions. I'm sure during the summer I won't have any problems wiring them in series. During the winter I might be able to wire them in series if I leave them out in the sun for a bit before connecting them to the bluetti.

I saw the review too. It was good. The Voc on the SP120 is 23.7 which is just barely over 45V for two. I guess that's why I was over voltage.
(1) what if you purposely shaded or covered a segment of one panel?
(2) Is there a pro or con to connecting the two SP120's (or any other panel) in series vs parallel? Because they would definitely work in parallel right, no matter what?

The best would be to wire them in parallel. But you can try wiring them in series and letting them cook in the sun a bit before connecting them to the bluetti to see if the voltage drops enough. When I put my panels in the sun they have Voc of 23.2v but after a moment the voltage starts dropping.

For two panels I actually think a parallel connection is a bit better because the panels are more independent, so if one gets shaded it won't affect the other.

Hobotech has his AC50S review up on YouTube... I guess I was reading the manual correctly; confirmed the 5521 ports are not regulated. Regardless, sounds like an all around good product.

Bluetti lies about their delivery time. The Amazon link that hobotech posted only points to the older unregulated models now. Bluetti website was changed to say product will ship "as early as end of November". I cancelled my pre-order from September 17 and am unlikely do deal with this company again. I do have an AC100. There is some speculation that if you use a discount code, your order goes to the back of the line , with the customers paying full price, getting serviced first, NOT the first come, first serve they say is their policy. Don't know and don't care if that's true at this point. It's nice that some of you received an AC50S. I would warn potential buyers not to trust their delivery dates.

Maybe I'm an optimist but I believe they're doing their best in a weird time, they're having growing pains, and their priority is putting out a great quality product and making sure it ships without getting banged up. They've been very transparent with all their communications and they aren't lying just to lie. They're giving the best info they can at the time.
If I had to find something to complain about though, it's definitely the writing. They should have an english speaking technical writer. Maybe one of us! Not me because I don't know what I'm talking about, but there are so many helpful people on here who do!

I just checked Amazon and the “blue” one has disappeared... it was listed with the older ones, at one point... thought it was weird to bundle the new one with old units. Maybe to keep the ratings/reviews, who knows. But when it was in there, it had something like Nov. 19-21st as delivery date.

Realize some have received their units in a timely manner. For me I was told with order date of Sept.17 by Customer Service( Kevin and Lynn) expect your unit to be shipped around October 9, then sorry, make that the week of November 15 .... then oops so sorry maybe as early as end of November. When Hobo said they had new stock on Amazon (at least a few units) , that was it for me. Just don't think that is good customer service. Also they never tell you about any delays, you have to ask.

I agree with that statement 100%. The only way I found out about the delays, was by me going to website and checking myself on expected ship date (no order update emails what so ever).

Well, let's see if they ship any units at the end of November. If they push it out till the middle of December, I might consider asking for a refund.

There is also a big commotion about the AC200 as well not being received.
Yet there is a newer model with LiFEPO.

Anyway, I just bought a 180 W Bouge RV solar panel today.
It is a bit of an overkill.
