Connecting battery to inverter, sparks then low-voltage disconnect?

Hello.

I have a 3000w 12v inverter, when I connect it to my lifepo4 200ah 12v battery there are sparks and then the battery enters low voltage disconnect.

Do any of you know why this might be happening and how I can avoid it.

The current sequence I am following is:
- attach main fuse to positive terminal of battery
- connect negative terminal of battery to negative of inverter
- connect positive terminal (via fuse) to positive of inverter -> sparks - > LV disconnect.

The battery comes out of lv disconnect in a second of being jumped from another 12v battery and it's fully charged.

Many thanks

Despite me reading same, buying a resistor to precharge the inverter capacitors, in my excited haste i forgot all about that and did same as you. Mine was a 2000w 24v to 120v inverter (for a US bought AC vacuum packer) and it also blew all the internal 24v blade fuses inside the inverter so check internal fuses too if it has any.

I'm planning to use a 25w 30 ohm with a illuminated momentary push switch to precharge 5kva inverter.
Push switch illumination will have in line resistor ( ohms of approx 4k to 5k - testing to confirm once battery pack made up ) which I hope will illuminate only once system is pre-charged , this will then stay on once main switch is closed to indicate battery on.
Did look at 3 position main battery isolator to do as others, to eliminate the need for a second switch, but couldn't find a suitable 48v / amperage version.

A LED takes almost nothing to light and your eye is log. That means the LED won't indicate much of nothing. I put zeners in series with the LED and that gives a distinct known turn off point.
