Is Eastron smart meter always working with Growatt inverter?

Hello guys,

Due to the big problem to get a 3phase smart meter at Growatt, I bought an Eastron SDM630-modbus V2 somewhere else (not at Growatt), will this one work just like the one that is sold by Growatt? Can it also be added in their monitoring system? How to read the serial number from the smart meter?

I'm in same case ;)
Growatt site have SDM630-modbus V2 (on picture).
But cannot enable export limit,
send email to them but they response at 5 in a morning one at day,
and for four day we are at position to tell them serial number of Inverter.

If some one from Growatt read this:
Please make some template for mail communication,
or troubleshooting form in ShineServer webpage or App.

I had a reply from Growatt support. If you don't buy the smart meter at Growatt, it will not work because Growatt re-write the smart meter registers.
FYI: Growatt smart meters are now CHNT, it looks like they don't use Eastron anymore.

Anyway, if you want a smart meter that works with the Growatt inverter, it NEEDS to be in a Growatt karton box. (if not in a Growatt box, it will not work)

Hi, does anyone know if the Eastron SDM230 Modbus V2 bought from the likes of Amazon (from this thread:-https://diysolarforum.com/threads/growatt-sph-and-power-import-control-from-grid.39897/) will still work with the Growatt SPH series (with the address change to 002 if required) or is the above statement by #gdb0701 above now true and has something changed since July?

I want to try and reduce the 'parasitic' draw from the grid (100w ish) during the day.

I read somewhere that it will work with the SPH, however I lost the link and can't find it anymore :(
Anyway, some strange things I experienced using an CHNT, ok, this was on a Growatt MOD inverter, and had to set BOTH inverter and smart meter to address 004 (WEIRD....). just to tell you that you might experiment with the addresses.... hope this helps!

I run the Easton SDM630-modbus v3, I think the only difference is that the Growatt ones have the correct settings initially while with the Easton ones you have to manually set the correct address and possibly other values like baudrate, stop bits etc.

Hello,

I have an inverter Growatt mid 20ktl3-x vietnam version with jack with 4 pins for COM. I make the connection according the manual of the inverter but Eastron SDM630-MODBUS V3 does not want to communicate with the inverter. I changed the address to 002 on inverter and 002 on smart meter and nothing. I attached pictures. I tried all the possibilities where to fit the pins for connection and no success. I attached some pics

RS485 requires each item to have a different address, change the inverter to 001.

Hi! Thank you for your reply, so I have to try to change address to 001 in inverter and 002 on the smart meter. I will do it today. If someone has any additional advices, please let me know.

Just ordered an Eastron 230 from amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electricity-Monitor-Digital-Display-Certified/dp/B08XJS1SBC with the hope the generic one can be reprogrammed ok as the Growatt configured ones are about double the price.

Possible problem?
Was thinking I could get a spark to install it at 1 (red circle) live feed after isolator switch but the neutral has already been divided at location 2 (orange circle) I presume this may give me an error in the meter reading?

The only other option is to place it around 3, before the isolator switch or to move that Neutral Henley splitter up to around the red 1 circle so its after the SDM230 meter.

Any of you guys know if connecting onto 1/2 the neutral would be an issue? Also is there a difference in who can do the work pre and post isolator switch, am thinking it would need to be a Scottish Power approved electrician if its around the 3 area?

This thread covers how to get your Easton SM630 V2 to be readable by a Growatt, hopefully the 230 is the same.

Not aware of any issues fitting a Split CT clamp around a live wire, you are not breaking into the wire and the CT is powered from induction only. If the CT is not split and needs the mains disconnecting then you need a sparky or just buy the same spec CT clamp but in the split form.

My CT split clamp for my Zanitza UMG604 and the CT for my MK2Router solar diverter are both just after the 100A fuse and before the meter.

Hi Kommando the CT clamp is already fitted and working but constantly see a draw from grid 50w to 100w. Others say fitting the Eastron rather than the CT clamp will improve accuracy as the inverter tries to get to 0watts,hopefully.

Houseofancients hopefully not, again reading links like above etc it says simply set the channel to 2 and some have mentioned the baud rate may need changed as well. But besides that there seems to be no difference

but constantly see a draw from grid 50w to 100w
Is this from the current DNO meter, if so have you checked the inverter settings, my MK2PVdiverter can be calibrated and most people set it to be just drawing in a few watts so there is definitely no export. The Growatt may have a setting so you can reduce the 50 to 100 down to 10 or 20w, my Solax has this but I use the MK2PVdiverter for limiting export so no need for a meter to be connected to the Solax to limit what it makes.

I have searched and searched I don't think the growatt sph6000 has any way to calibrate the grid draw down towards zero, hence I think many are installing the Eastron.

Where is the growatt CT clamp currently installed and how long is the cable run to the growatt.

I solved the issue with the communication between Growatt Mid 20ktl3-x Vietnam version(China version) through an installer which from Growatt Installer App, entered on my inverter remotely and modify the registry and open the communication between Inverter and Smart meter. The inverters sold on Asian market, most of them are only for injection and the communication with a smart meter is disabled from the software. Now everything is working perfectly.
