Another lithium charging fire

I have wondered about the safety of e-bikes. There are dozens of companies building e-bikes and the competition is fierce. This is bound to result in two dangerous things:

1) I am sure that some of the companies are slapping these things together without a solid understanding of lithium batteries and how to keep them safe.
2) The price competition is going to drive some of the companies to cut corners where ever they can. This will lead to designs and components that are less than safe.

As we saw with the Samsung Galaxy phone, even reputable, well-funded companies can get it wrong. It is no wonder some of these start-ups are getting it wrong.

Virtually all the cheap lithium powered chinese 'hoverboards' / scooters / e-bikes out there are liabilities. Ticking time bombs.

Really just serves to justify standards/inspections for solar/battery setups - as much as I despise dealing with bureaucracy in my own home.

My brother nearly caught my shed on fire charging RC car batteries, he lost a lot of batteries and some power tools, also burned up the table the charger was on.

I keep all our lithium battery chargers on steel shelving.

If you have an EV of any type. Car, bike, etc, I would personally never store it in a garage or near a house. It should either have its own garage or no garage.

If I was the owner of any rental properties i would specifically prohibit EVs of any type on the grounds.

Get mad all you want. People are stupid and you can't put a lithium fire out, but you can put a gas fire out. An EV going up in an occupied structure is insanely dangerous.
