Looks like a hefty sale on 305ah grade B cells on 18650…$99/cell!

Would it be an absolutely horrible idea to put 16 in my cart when I’ve only gone from “I’ll just buy a rack of EG4” to reading the forum and “hey, building one doesn’t look too bad and could save 30-40%” in like a 2 week span? ?

I’m nowhere near ready to have a permanent home for these or to get my home system build into gear, but the price seems phenomenal. Maybe I can just run them on my father in laws grid tie next door for now idk. Just seems like a potential 15kwh bank for like $2500 all in

As long as you know the risks of buying Grade B cells, I think it is ok. 18650BatteryStore seems to have a good reputation (customer service via phone, and not e-mail). Being in the USA, truth in advertising will eventually come back to bite them if they don't do something material that they say they are doing.

Most of the risks are buying a Grade B cell that is re-lasered and sold as Grade A. I wonder how hard it is to pass a Grade C or D (do they go that low?) cell off as Grade B.

Grade A 18650 reputation = good
Grade B 18650 reputation = meh

there is a chap on the vendor review bought leaky cells and 18650 demanded he pay for shipping for replacement cells.
These were grade B btw.

On the same token some people have had good results including very decent tests with retp grade B.

Just remember, you are rolling the dice with grade B and regardless of where you buy the risks are greater than grade A.

Most of what prompted me to consider grade B was all the dialogue in here about redone Docans and people paying grade A prices for Grade B.

So its good 18650batterystore is telling the truth about grade B... but I think buyers don't know all the risk.

I understand there position, the want to tell you hey buyer beware, but at the same time don't to loose the sale.

Yeah not for me, what you save in ?you gain in ?...

Just bought 16 of these cells for my upgraded 15kwh pack. Got it with the Seplos 280L upright case.

Got it from a reputable supplier so I'm trusting them that they've checked the quality of the cells, and with my previous dealings with them, I have no concerns on that front.

Guess we'll see tomorrow :).

Well I got them, and they look great. Just top balancing them now.

They've had the QR Codes scrubbed, so there's not much to tell other than that.

I'm a little concerned about the type of metal that's used for the thread, it's doesn't feel like aluminium, but I'm going to be very careful when installing it in the case, which btw, is great.

Once I've got charged up, i'll do a capacity test on one, but with 20a going into the cells, that might take some time.

@Pieh0 did you notice any swelling? You did order from 18650, correct?
I was about to order 16 and noticed they added this to the top of the listing.
"Potential for some cells to have slight swelling."

No, no swelling, and I'm in the UK, so I ordered from Fogstar.

that phrase...
What? Fogstar have been nothing but great for me when dealing with any issues, and they do batch test their cells, so if they're selling them, it's a pretty good bet they aren't offloading shit onto the market.

same as nkon for me...

i think nkon and fogstar may be sharing suppliers, as i quite a lot of the same things popping up at the same time

Sorry, what I was trying to say is that when people say "reliable", "reputable", "well-known" supplier instead of saying who it is I just get annoyed. Thanks for letting us know its fogstar.

I finally ordered 20 of the B cells from 18650. Talked to Steve about any swelling, leaking issues, etc. Mentioned that I'm planning to use them in an EEL case, so swelling would be a problem. He said he'd have them check cells before packing. Noted that issues with leaking (mentioned in posts on here) seemed to be shipping related, including shipments being forked in handling. Should have them by Monday, so we'll see.

I'm going to try 4 of them in a Goal Zero Yeti 1250 to replace the AGM battery. I figured I can use the 4 worst cells, if there are any, for that application. He suggested that using LiFePO4 with alternators is not a good idea and that having AGM in parallel would be a good idea. These have an Anderson 75A chaining connector on the back anyway, so that's the way I've been using it (with extra battery), though I never charge from an alternator. Just posting here to relay the info.
